Romantic Romanian Phrases

Updated on August 24, 2017

Free Romantic Romanian Phrases for Everyone

Do you want to surprise someone special with romantic Romanian phrases? Many of those who want to learn to speak Romanian are doing this because they are in love with a Romanian (this is the result of a poll).

This is why I decided to make a list of useful romantic Romanian phrases for everyone.

Attention! - - - Instructions for Use

While most of these phrases are perfectly suited to be put in a written message, please do not attempt to say them to your beloved unless you want to make him or her laugh. This might sound funny and awkward if you try to pronounce them without knowing the rules.

If you want to give it a try anyway (because you speak some Romanian or you don't care and take the risk of being funny), go practice the Romanian pronunciation first or ask someone in a language forum to teach you how to pronounce it correctly.

The following phrases can be equally used for guys and girls unless otherwise stated.

What do you like most about the Romanians you know?

      Great Article,

Based on your advices I surprised my husband and he was impressed.

I'm calling him now "Puiul meu", it's just that I did not know exactly how to pronounce it.

      Thank you very much

While searching I also found a complementary article at

looks like they broke some of the character encoding with the migration to hubpages. would be nice to get that fixed.

I should have say, is more correct to say like this:

      scumpa mea, ingerasul meu

      Is not so direct translation.

      It really helps me. \(^u^)/

Every time when I'm writing with him and send him something Romanian, he writes back in Romanian, and it's usually very sweet.

You need a reason to learn a language, and he's mine

"Scumpul meu ingeras" for a girl

@anonymous: I believe they got it backwards...

I am not Romanian but from talking with a Romanian "friend" (-; (-; (-; of mine:

      - An ending with "ul" is for a guy, "a" for a woman.

      - "meu" is "mine" for a guy, "mea" is "mine for a girl...

So I believe he was absolutely right, you should have said "scumpul meu" and he would have said "scumpa mea" to you..

I believe the following entries should be used like this:

Ingerasul meu = My little angel (for a guy)

Dragostea mea = My love (for a girl)

As for that "friend" or mine, I call her

      "scumpa mea ingeraÈa"

which I believe means my sweet/precious little angel...

I believe the equivalent for a guy would be

      "scumpul meu ingerasul"

      La revedere!

I told my boyfriend who is Romanian Scumpa mea and he said he felt like that was wrong, like that is what he would say. He is a little rough around the edges in regards to he Romanian because he hasn't lived there since he was 10, but I was wondering what is actually correct? I really love using this site! It has made us be able to be a lot closer. Thanks!

i have a friend who i refer to as starlight .... i do not trust Google translate, how would i say good night princess starlight in the right way . can anybody help

    • profile image

      anonymous 4 years ago

@MICHIO: The subject -- "eu" (I) in this case -- is implied by the verb and is optional. So "Eu the iubesc" and "The iubesc" are equivalent.

Something I always find interesting in any language is how different people say things, for example one time my girlfriend and I were watching a movie in English and she asked me what was said. I told her I didn't know and she said but it was English and I said yes but some people speak English and I can't understand. Another thing is most people say The iubesc= I love you in Romanian but my girlfriend taught me that she writes it Eu the iubesc=I love you. So I think it depends who is teaching us and we will say and write as they do. I really like this site.

@anonymous: Jess, Happy you are here.I suppose there are several ways to say things in any language, and I have no doubt that the way this is written would be understood. I think if I was gonna say the phrase I love you like crazy, I would write this way=The iubesc ca un nebun. Im thinking of you is exactly how I would say that phrase. Please I'm no expert Im just trying to share my own experience and hope this can help you or anyone else .BTW Romanian is the most difficult language to learn in my opinion, having its roots from Latin among others.

@anonymous: hahah this is what happened to me and my current boyfriend. The intensity of it is like no other. We've been together for awhile now and it certainly was 'love at first sight' indeed. All the way down to the WAY we met. *sigh* either Romanians exude some kind of special love that others around them instantly fall in love with, or we are just some lucky people who were able to come across our soul mates who just happen to be romanian :) (most likely the 2nd option hehe). Either way, this page is SO wonderful for making it a little easier for non romanians 'like us' to communicate with the loves of our lives. <3

To the foregoing I add: I don't know if this is "attitude" or "other", but Romanians seem to combine the intensity of Spaniards with the whimsy of Brazilians, and it's fascinating.

    • profile image

      anonymous 4 years ago

I used: Ma gandesc la tine = I'm thinking of you and The iubesc la nebunie = I love you like crazy. I just added 'Si' before Te iubesc la nebunie, in order to make it flow well when used in a sentence together :) ultimately saying, "I'm thinking of you and I love you like crazy". Thank you for the translations!! I love them and my extremely handsome romanian boyfriend loves getting/hearing them! He says I'm getting better at learning how to speak in romanian hehe

      Foarte frumoase traduceri, foarte inspirate.

Very nice translations, some of them I wouldn't have thought of, even after 17 years in Australia and using English daily.
