Top 10 Bad Habits That Keep Us Stuck and Prevent Us from Living a Better Life

Updated on January 19, 2015

Top 10 Bad Habits: Thinking Habits Shaping Our Destinies

Either we are aware of or not, our destiny is dictated by our habits. Especially by our thinking habits.

All personal development teachers agree that everything in our lives is a matter of choice. Even when we don't make choices, it is a choice! We choose not doing anything and let the hazard decide for us...

All the decisions we make regarding our future are our own choice. We are the only ones responsible for everything happening to us. We are the creators of our destinies.

Following by default our thinking daily routine, there are some mistakes we unconsciously make, which dramatically affect us.

So, before blaming others for your unhappiness or struggle in your life, take a look to your thinking habits and see what can you do to change their effects.

I selected the top 10 bad habits we accumulate during our life and automatically use without realizing how harmful they are... I also created a 2015 CALENDAR to be used by anyone willing to get rid of this habits in one year.

We over-complicate our lives, escalate conflicts and transform insignificant events in big deals...

Are You Over-Complicating Your Life?

The truth of the matter is that the time we have to spend on Earth is limited . So, why are we losing it with a lot of insignificant things?

We blame others for our failures, try to change others, struggle to see others approving us and be like-minded, and fight to change things that cannot be changed.

And we suffer and are unhappy... We feel frustrated because we simply cannot accept the idea that life is in its essence simple. We are those complicating it focusing outside us instead of looking inside us.

We allow distractions to stop us from doing important things in our lives

Do You Allow Distractions Stopping You from Doing What's Really Important in Your Life?

There are just a few important things to be done in our lives. And a lot of other things which are only consuming our precious time without bringing any significant result.

And, instead paying attention and giving priority to the important things, we find ourselves absorbed by the unimportant things - commercial movies, too long talk-shows, and TV series, bad books, you tube short movies, unimportant email messages and browsing the Internet without any clear target...

We lack self-confidence, don't believe in us and in our potential

Do You Believe in Yourself?

Many people use to envy others for their accomplishments while thinking that they can never achieve something similar. They think they aren't as lucky as others are and capable of being successful.

They think success happens only to others...

We fear the unknown preferring to stay inside a boring and limited comfort zone

Are You Afraid of Unknown?

Even when they don't like the life they're living, most people prefer staying where they are just because they're familiar with these circumstances. They don't want to make changes being afraid of the unknown. They're scared of anything from outside their comfort zone...

And they continue to stay stuck among their own frustrations.

We search for others' approval in everything we do

Are You Always Expecting Other People to Approve What You're Doing?

People are obsessed by what others are believing and saying about them.

What they don't realize is that no one is really interested about their lives. Everybody is interested about his/her own life.

When judging others, we just try to convince ourselves that we aren't wrong...

We let others decide in our place

How Many Times Did You Let Others Decide for You?

Willing to please others, we let them decide for us forgetting that no one could know better then us what is really important in our own evolution... And we accept their decisions and then complain about our lack of chance.

We believe that life must be a struggle, complicated and full of compromise

Do You Believe That Life Must Be a Struggle?

That's probably the reason why we complicate our lives. We just cannot see life in its simplicity...

We don't pay attention to what we really want to do or to be

How Many Times Did You Put Aside Something You'd Love to Do?

Too many times we are not able to see ourselves successful. And we give up to our passions to follow instead other boring activities we believe are more important...

That's because we learned that what we like to do is in general a waste of time. We don't have time for our passions because we are too busy being frustrated of doing things we don't like...

We don't think seriously about our life significance

Do You Pay Attention to the Significance of Your Life?

We live with the perception that our life never ends and we have enough time to do really important things: to learn something new, to read the books we collected on a shelf, to see some nice places. We don't have time to even right a bucket list...

We lack imagination and vision for our future

Do You Have a Vision for Your Future?

Most people let their lives happen to them. They don't know exactly what they want and don't have any clear plan for their future. They don't think something good could happen to them.

What they don't realize is that something good can only happen when you figure out what this 'something good' is...

Successful people, those who receive in their lives the best of the best, are those who are able to imagine what 'the best' really is for them.

What Are You Going To Do?

Now you know what the 10 bad habits are.

I love the: We don't take our passions seriously. How very appropriate for life. If we do what we love life is so very much happier and healthier but most of us have a very bad habit of down playing what we are most destined to enjoy.

@Gypzeerose: I'm glad you took your time to think about these things. That's what I wanted by writing this lens - to make people take a minute and think about what is really important in life. It is so easy to chose happiness instead of a life full of struggle. Most people don't realize that's a matter of choice. Thank you for your nice comments!

I was breezing through some Squidoo lenses and yours caught my attention. I made a cup of tea so I could stay here a little longer, because you actually are offering some answers to life's persistent problems. EXCELLENT lens - pinned to my inspriational board, facebook liked and blessed. What is my take away? To decided what is important that I offer with my one and precious life and to spend some time every day doing it.

I'm not a maker of New Year's resolutions, but I do think this is a very useful lens - you've touched on so many of the little traps of negative self-talk that tend to keep people back. Nicely done, RocketSquid. :-)

Nothing I suspect. The main bad habit is to not change the bad habits.
