United States and US Presidents Educational Placemats

Updated on January 14, 2014

Get a Place Mat Featuring the US States and the American Presidents

When I was a kid, my Mom had a collection of kids place mats she would always put on the table wherever a child sat. As a kid, I loved them. They were fun where everyone else's was boring (in the eyes of a child).

Looking back, I recognize that these placemats served a few purposes.

  • They kept our food messes on plastic place mats and off her tablecloth.
  • They kept us busy when were were done eating dinner, but no one else was.
  • They were teaching us things while we ate our Crunch Berries. They were educational!
If you've got kids, do them a service, and from a very young age, start putting a place mat in front of them that will leak a little knowledge into them over time. Learning the names and locations of United States is a big task for a kid, a place mat can help. Becoming familiar with the Presidents just might spark their interest in history.

You don't want your kid to be one of those teenagers that shows up on Jay Leno unable to answer the most basic questions.

This map keeps it really simple and focuses on the states shapes, names, and capitals.

This is the one to use not to peak ones interest in what a state is known for, but to really drill down the facts.

Amazing Kids Who Learned Their States on a Place Mat

USA Geography Placemat

This is a great place mat featuring a US Map. It is one of the most durable map placemats out there!

This US Map place mat is my favorite!

This US Map place mat is my favorite!

This map has tons of information and graphics jammed in there. Every state has something to represent it. Every time you look at it, you'll see something new.

It's got the capitals and the names of the states. It even labels the icons on the map (because a kid may not recognize the Seattle Needle).

This is the kind of map that is filled with information, but is still fun enough for a kid to explore when they are quietly entertaining themselves when the conversation goes to politics.

This map is pretty, that's certain, and it does have a few great features, but it lacks a few things for my likeing (as an educational tool).

This map does have a certain Americana feel, and it does display the states and their names well. It also includes images for things areas are known for, but they choices of images seem to me to be chosen to be pretty rather to really represent a state. A dinosaur in Montana? A pretzel in Pennsylvania? Nothing in Louisiana, North Dakota, Mississippi?

It may be good for younger learners to learn words and help them recognize the images in the graphics and learning what a map is.

Also, I don't like the placement of Hawaii and the fact that it's proportionally so large.

It's a pretty map, and I wouldn't mind it in the place mat rotation, but I would make sure it wasn't the family's only US map.

This map is made of cardboard with a protective coating. It is not a full plastic lamination, so it will not last as long as some other placemats.

Do You Know The US States?

If given a blank US map with the states drawn out on it, could you fill it in with names of the states.

This is another simple US States map. It is a nice placemat, though not to the high durability standard I usually expect from Melissa & Doug - at least not for prolonged use as a place mat.

This is an excellent map!

This map is great for an older learner. It includes things like latitude and longitude, major city names (not just the capitals), names of mountain ranges, and the names for bodies of water.

This would be a great gift for a child of a parent who travels a lot.

Kids That Know The US Presidents

Your child can learn all the presidents of the United States! It's learning at home and stressing the importance of learning that makes such a huge difference.

This is the most informative place mat with the United States presidents.

This chart shows all the presidents portraits (in black and white), their names, the year of birth and death, and a star signifying the political party affiliation.

On the back, there is information about the requirements to become the American president, the duties of a president, the seal of the United State, the White House, the Statue of Liberty, the bald eagle, the US flag, and The Star Spangled Banner.

This placemat features colored portraits of the presidents, their names, and years of birth and death. There isn't as much information on this mat as the U.S. Presidents Activity Placemat.

The back of this placemat looks much like the front, however it is in black and white and leaves the names blank. This acts as a nice quiz for kids who are well on their way to learning all the presidents.

Don't Stop With the USA

If you always keep the same placemat on the table, eventually your child will get bored with it and stop looking at it.

In order to keep things fun and interesting change your placemat often. You can get educational placemats that feature a wide variety of things like famous people, world flags, the solar system, animals, sign language, and more.

I would have loved one of these when I was a kid! I had little plastic statues of all the presidents, and a ruler which I still own. Check out my new vice presidents lens. Cheers!

Not sure what the value is for a non American (Brit living in Canada) but find it fun just to keep my mind working. I was surprised that I knew as many as I do!

These are helpful for kids! We have a puzzle too, and that's really been helping them learn their states.
