I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the talented Illustrator David Christiana, and the author Gail Carson Levine, the amazing writer of many acclaimed children's books.
My encounter with Levine and Christiianna took place during a book fair held at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park Arizona. It was there that Mrs. Levine and Christianna received the exciting news that 'Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg', had made the New York Times Best Sellers List.
Before leaving to share their hit release with children at a local school, Christianna gave me a copy of the sensational book. Christianna's ability to create an illustration intertwined within his name before a blink of an eye, was showcased his incredible talent!
David Christiana born in Huntington, New York, has illustrated more than twenty picture books for children and authored four for international publishers such as Farrar, Straus & Giroux; Harcourt Brace; Little, Brown; Henry Holt; and Scholastic.
The popular book is about a fairy named Prilla. who has no idea what her special talent is, but Prilla is heartbroken that she does not seem to fit characteristics of a fairy. She seeks help help from Mother Dove, the most important character in Neverland, who creates and cares for the magical egg that prevents all who live Neverland from growing old and dying.Through tragedy, Prilla's skills are put to the test as she searches to find her purpose in a whimsical land.
It's not easy to capture the imagination of children. A child's short attention span is constantly in search of something new and intriguing.
Granting children the opportunities to explore creativity through books is a favorite past time. Spending hours sitting at a computer, watching television or playing video games, is what children enjoy doing most of the time. Yet, creative writers like Levine, teamed with talented artist such as Christiana make it easy for children to loose themselves in a magical fairy tale.
