Top 3 Pakistani dramas you need to binge-watch right now!
1. Zindagi Gulzar Hai
Zindagi Gulzar hai was a phenomenon that made its stars insanely popular, grabbing everyone's attention. Writer Umera Ahmed proved her amazing versatility by being able to write this enthralling tale that was massively admired not only by Pakistanis but its neighbours too; boosting the steady dribble of cultural exchange into a river of cross-border friendship.
Zindgai Gulzar Hai is a story that revolves around the lives of Kashaf Murtaza, an insightful student and Zaroon Junaid, a typical rich brat; who are poles apart. This is no typical mother-in-law and daughter-in-law serial. Kashaf, unfortunately belongs from a middle-class family who works hard to make ends meet. Zaroon Junaid (who is portrayed by Fawad Khan) studies at the same university as Kashaf. Zaroon is shown as a big time flirt during his college days while Kashaf is your serious and mature girl. Two people with a widely different nature falling in love is something that has been done to death, with the lead actress falling umpteenth number of times on the hero and several rain dance sequences. Honestly this does not happen in real life! In Zindagi Gulzar Hai, you love the subtle way of expressing love and gradual falling in love, which is what happens in real life!
The show has been incredibly directed by Sultana Siddiqui, who is famous for directing a number of other magnificent drama serials. The cast includes Sanam Saeed who plays the protagonist, FK, Samina Pirzada, Waseem Abbas, Behroze Sabzwari, Javed Sheikh etc.
Though the name may sound cliché but wait, let us not judge a book by its cover.
It has never been easy for anybody to portray history. Dastaan is one of those very few intellectual dramas you'll ever witness in Pakistan. It isn't just any serial, or just any typical romance between two individuals. It is an extraordinary and heroic story based on relationship of a nation with its people. Set between the uproarious and thunderous circumstance during the time of Partition and due Independence, Dastaan narrates the story of Hasan and Bano; kept apart by turn of events beyond their control.
The drama is directed by Haissam Hussain who, very skillfully handled this project to produce an absolute masterpiece. Mustering different location and a huge star cast, the drama discusses about the political insensitivities and historical details. The star cast includes FK, Sanam Saeed, Ahsan Khan, Saba Qamar and many others who gave performances.
3. Shehr e Zaat
This one is directed by my mother's favourite, Sarmad Khoosat. Yeah, the person who never leaves you disappointed. The story, written by Umera Ahmed (again, she's an incredible writer!) is a difficult concept to bring to the screen.
Shehr e Zaat; a spiritual romance. The drama revolves around the life of Falak (Mahira Khan plays this role). Mahira and Mikaal (male protagonist), both did justice to their roles. The story brought up some bold and tough subjects like unchallenging acceptance of materialism in our society and lack and scarcity of empathy for those around us. Even more than Humsafar (another amazing and heart-wrenching drama directed by Sarmad Khoosat), this drama showcasted his true, pure and unique talent.
The cast of this drama serial included Mahira Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Samina Pirzada, Mohib Mirza.
I dare you to watch just one episode of these dramas and not waking up a day later realizing you have binge-watched them. Yes, they are that compelling.
As the article comes to end, I want to clarify that there are many more dramas in Pakistan right now that deserve immense appreciation. Pakistan is eminent for producing marvelous iconic drama serials that are pretty practical and showcast the truth of our lives give us a lesson for a life-time.
