Nine Shows Like Gossip Girl

Updated on September 30, 2015

Do You Love Gossip Girl?

If you love shows like Gossip Girl and peeking into the make-believe lives of ultra-rich American teenagers, then you'll love these nine shows. They all feature similarly wealthy or elite young characters, romance, and drama. Some are set in the suburbs of Southern California and others on the East Coast, but they're all fun, over-the-top, and gorgeous to watch!

A tip: Don't judge these shows too quickly. They may not be what you expect, at first.

1. Privileged

Privileged (2008-2009)

Privileged revolves around 23-year-old girl Megan Smith. She works at a tabloid rag but she dreams of dominating the world of journalism. In an unfortunate turn of events, Megan gets fired from her job. Luckily, she meets a cosmetics mogul Laurel Limoges and takes a job as live-in tutor for Laurel's twin teen daughters in ultra-wealthy Palm Beach, Florida. Everything is going great until she starts a complicated relationship.

2. Beverly Hills 90210

Beverly Hills 90210 (2008-2013)

This now-classic series follows a group of students at West Beverly Hills High School. Annie and Dixie Wilson must adjust to life in Beverly Hills when their dad moves the family to California to be near his alcoholic mother. However, problems arise in the form of constant drama. Annie and Dixie have a hard time coping with their new lives while trying to deal with their parents' expectations.

3. The O.C. | Source

The O.C. (2003-2007)

This teen television series focuses on troubled Ryan Atwood. Ryan is adopted by a wealthy and philanthropic couple, Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. But as a kid from a broken home, Ryan struggles to cope with the shallow and materialistic world of Newport Beach, even with the support of his adoptive family.

4. Melrose Place | Source

Melrose Place (1992-1999)

Melrose Place takes place in an apartment building in Los Angeles. Everyone is beautiful and ambitious and the show follows eight main characters as they fall in and out of love (and each other's beds) and pursue their dreams. There is a total of seven seasons and new characters show up in each season.

5. One Tree Hill | Source

One Tree Hill (2003-2012)

The story of One Tree Hill revolves around the relationship between two half-brothers. Lucas and Nathan Scott aren't very close. Nathan is the head of the Tree Hill Ravens basketball team and a feud begins when Lucas joins the team. It doesn't help when Lucas becomes interested in Nathan's girlfriend. Soon, this complicated relationship gets even more confusing.

6. Pretty Little Liars | Source

Pretty Little Liars (2010-present)

This series is based on the novel by Sara Shepard. The story follows four teenage girls: Aria Montgomery, Emily Fields, Hanna Marin, and Spencer Hastings. At the series' start, the girls are in the eighth grade and a friend, Alison DiLaurentis, mysteriously disappears. The story moves forward four years and each girl is living her own separate life when they begin receiving text messages from an unknown person.

7. Make It or Break It | Source

Make It or Break It (2009-present)

In the first season of Make It or Break It, three elite gymnasts are training at one of the best gyms in the U.S. to prepare for upcoming Olympic games in London. The girls have been best friends for years. Soon, they are joined by a newcomer and novice gymnast. Things soon start to turn for the worse when their head coach receives blackmail threats to join a rival gym in Denver.

8. Jersey Shore | Source

Jersey Shore (2009-2012)

This show is a little different from most regular teen dramas, but with all of its outrageousness, it's super fun to watch. Jersey Shore is a reality show that follows Italian-American "guidos" and "guidettes"—young, rich adults who have had cosmetic surgery and cruise around in expensive cars. The show follows them as they party and do crazy things. Jersey Shore got a lot of negative press for portraying such stereotypical Italian Americans, but it is still wildly popular.

9. Heroes | Source

Heroes (2006-2010)

In Heroes, ordinary people discover that they have supernatural powers. Over four seasons, the characters find out how their new-found powers affect their lives. Not the typical Gossip Girl-like show, Heroes does share a focus on young adults and romance. If you enjoy fantasy, this show might pique your interest.

Gossip Girl is one of the best shows I have seen. The first few episodes are a little slow, but once it got started I couldn't stop watching. One Tree Hill and Reign are great shows that also get very addicting. Pretty Little Liars always keeps you on your toes. Some other great shows are Revenge, Chuck, New Girl, Hart of Dixie, Grey's Anatomy and many other that I have watched.

I seen every single one of these shows and loved them! I didn't really care much for Jersey Shore, probably cause I don't really like reality shows. I loved the other shows though.

Love PLL, Revenge and Switched at Birth. I was saddened when they cut The Lying Game without warning.

The CW series Reign also reminds me of Gossip Girl because of the beautiful clothes on the show plus the idea of the "rich and famous" class however set on a different time.

I also love Pretty Little Liars and is still following this series.

I think the new show Scorpion that comes out this fall will likely be a good addition to this list. There are also a ton of shows on the CW that should be considered - I am currently binge watching Arrow, but the Vampire diaries is Gossip Girl-ish and The Originals is a spin off of that. I love The Originals - Klaus is hot.

None of those shows comes close to Gossip Girl. Most of them were short-lived series (Melrose Place).

I just bought season 3 of one tree hill a few days ago and I own all of The Oc. Here's another one for you. Friday Night Lights. Amazing stories set in a small Texas town. I didn't watch it while it was on, but over the Summer I got all of the seasons from my local library and totally consumed them. Thanks for the list. Good job.
