10 Things I Hate About You
This is my favorite romantic comedy of all time. Even though this movie is geared towards a teenage audience, it will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember the first time I watched this movie I fell in love with it right away. It's a romantic comedy full of unique and interesting characters, with a fun storyline. The main stars are Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, and because of this movie I became a big fan of both. I started watching more of the movies they starred in too, and Julia Stiles is still one of my favorite actresses to this day.
This movie follows the life of two sisters, Kat (the main character) and Bianca Stratford, (Two people who are completely different from each other). Bianca is so frustrated because of the strong rules she must follow, one particularly that she can't date until her older sister Kat does. Since Kat is a loner, feminist, and not into the dating scene, this proves a difficult task for Bianca. She tries to get her sister to date so that she can, but of course Kat isn't going to. One of the guys who really likes Bianca finds out about their father's rule and tries to set Kat up just so he can date her sister. He succeeds with bad intentions, but what makes for a very interesting story!
Overall I would describe this movie as a funny, romantic, moving, and very captivating. I love movies where you get to see the characters grow and learn and become much better people in the end!
I've always admired Kat very much. I used to watch this movie all the time when I was young and I really thought she was the coolest girl ever. Kat is a quirky young feminist, who lives with her father and younger sister. She doesn't conform to the standards that society sets for her. She marches to the beat of her own drum, which I truly admire.
When it comes to boys, she gives them the cold shoulder because she knows that most boys her age have the wrong intentions (smart girl). She's such a creative person who shares several of the same interests as me (which is perhaps another reason I am so drawn to this character). She is artistic, and she too loves to write. Her father trusts her very much because she has a strong head on her shoulders. She is the one that always makes the right decisions, and is very responsible.
Her sister Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) on the other hand hates the fact that her "goody two shoes sister" has set such high standards with her father (who expects Bianca to be like Kat). Bianca is more wild, into boys, and totally opposite from Kat. She wants to date, but her father won't allow it at first. Throughout the movie you can see how much these sisters differ, but as it continues they start to bond more and the movie takes a nice turn towards the end.
Their dad Walter (Larry Miller) will make you laugh, he is a very funny guy. You can tell he truly cares about his daughters, and perhaps is even more strict because they are all he has left (their mother passed away).
Patrick (Heath Ledger) is a wild guy, with a bad boy stereotype. Totally not the kind of person you would ever think Kat would date (besides until she met him she gave no guy the time of day). He is actually a really sweet caring guy, but on the outside you would see a rough and troublesome exterior. I won't spoil too many details, but when Patrick is first introduced to Kat, it is with bad intentions. His heart isn't in it at first, but he chases her and tries to get her to go out with him only to keep getting denied from the very smart Kat. After a while though, she gives him a chance (trust me it took him quite a while). This totally freaks her dad out, who never before worried about boys with Kat.
Also their dad had a rule that Bianca couldn't date until Kat did (because he didn't think Kat ever would). So when Kat starts dating Patrick their dad's reactions are very comical. So Patrick and Kat start to date, and fall in love. Then the ill intentions I mentioned earlier come to play and Kat is devastated by them. She is torn emotionally, because the walls that she had built up all her life when it came to things like boys, came tumbling down. Things fix themselves though, and there is a very nice ending. This is the most memorable scene from the movie in my opinion, this is where the title is from but it is really just a heart touching scene and was always my favorite part!
The trailer definitely hits on some great moments!
Another one of my favorite scenes, too funny (but really sweet)
Soundtrack, love the music from this movie!
This movie had some really great music in it, I would love to own the soundtrack! I remember when Heath Ledger was singing "Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You", what a great song!
10th anniversary edition, I will definitely be getting this for my blu-ray player soon!
This is another great movie that also stars Julia Stiles, she is such a great actress!
