100 Funniest Movies (Part 18 ~ #s 15-11)

Updated on July 1, 2008

# 15 ~ Groundhog Day

Best Scene: Let's Not Spoil It!

Groundhog Day ~~ 1993

Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is a weatherman on location in Punxsutawny, PA covering the Groundhog Day Festival and he isn't planning on spending the night. He plans on getting the hell of this hokey town and never returning with his mind on an anchorman position. His new producer Rita (Andie MacDowell) and smart-ass cameraman Larry (Chris Elliott) will be joining him for an odyssey of repetition as Phil Conners is not only gonna spend the night, but he is gonna wake up every morning to the sound of Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe" forever. Or at least, that's what he thinks. He is so tortured by the idea of living this same day over and over again that he commits suicide....several times and in several ways but it is no use. He wakes up the next morning without a scratch no matter what. My only problem with this film is the ending. The resolve. There isn't one. Why is he set free? Why does the cycle end? The only flaw though. Huge props to Stephen Tobolowsky for bringing to life a classic character named Ned Ryerson who's in the clip.

Okay, this is a curtain call for the cast, take a bow people! Bravo!

Best in Show ~ 2000

Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show is the subject of our final Mock-umentary from the "Guest-Troupe". They take those pet people and bring them to the forefront for an expose in obsession. These people who can't help themselves. We know exactly who they are and what they are about in a flash. Then we forget about them. But not these people. You'll never forget them, I promise you that. Pinenuts, Walnuts,..

# 13 ~ Bullets Over Broadway

Wiest Wins her Second Oscar, both in Woody Allen movies!

The Cast Which Again Deserves Applause....

  1. John Cusack - David, the naive playwright/auteur who loses control of his own show and never gets it back!

Bullets Over Broadway ~ 1994

I already told ya everything ya need ta know, go watch it!

# 12 ~ Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Ladies and Gentleman, the Late & Forever Great John Candy!

John Hughes strikes again! This is getting rediculous. The guy made quality movies for the most part. The story of two travelers at Thanksgiving trying to get home to their families is everything you want. Great cast? CHECK! Great Script? CHECK! Edie McClurg? CHECK! Okay let's roll!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles ~ 1987

Neal meets Del in New York City in the opening moments of the film and he can't seem to shake him, the rest of the movie no matter what he tries. Neal has a loving wife and family who he really can't wait to see again, and Del has vowed to help him get there. You gotta see it to believe it because it hasn't been duplicated since. Two equally brilliant comedic actors bouncing off one another with perfect chemistry be it through disdain or affection for one another.

# 11 ~ The Birdcage

Afriad of My Guatemalanese?

This one is for the ladies. I am a guy and my list is decidedly male to a certain extent. So I have bestowed on my better half Paula to supply me with the chick vote which I then, of course had to approve of, etc. We have given the #1 spot to The Birdcage for the ultimate movie that cracks women up. Guys, it really isn't that bad and if you haven't seen it you are missing out on one of the shockingly funniest movies ever. Nathan Lane steals the show, no way around it. Hank Azaria is also beyond funny as Agador Spartacus.

The Birdcage ~ 1996

Young guy who's parents are both men and run a nightclub on South Beach wants to marry the daughter of a conservative Senator. The Senator's partner died in the arms of a prostitute and is he is hiding out from the the club! The charade lasts as long as it can ans then just dies. Too bad. A decebt ending and you could have had a classic. Oh yeah and one more thing, this movie is fuh-laming!

I was very delighed to read and look at the videos of this post. Makes me more and more convinced that cinema is a very pandore, a kind of hyper pandore of our time; the Mystic Spammer of our symbolic fonction acting at a mimetic field level.

Ohh I forgot to mention. I don't think Little Miss Sunshine is on the top 10 comedy chick flicks because it can be for men too! It is hilarious either way. The others are pretty much women's movies. Now I really want to the Birdcage.

I hope I am not the only one who cares??? I have only seen Groundhog Day on this part of the list. And I thought it was all right. I mean it was funny but not funny enough to be on the list. In my opinion.

seeing Steve Martin reminds me that you should add My Blue Heaven. I think it was his best movie (that I have seen) My friend said that A Man With Two Brains (also Steve Martin) was a funny movie. I don't know because I haven't seen it. But he has good taste.

Only 10 left! Is this where you are going to make individual hubs for each movie? or is that the top 5?
