14 Romantic Movies That Are ACTUALLY Romantic.

Updated on February 16, 2016

Too Many Romantic Comedies!

There are sooo many rom coms. Most of them have the same plots over and over again. I have seen a lot where the couples don't even have chemistry and the romance seems forced. And then there are the super shallow ones that begin with an immediate hook-up and you never really get to know the characters. Movies try to make you want two people to end up together, but sometimes don't even give you much to go on. Some of the movies on my list do have classic plots, but I believe they all have good character development and a chemistry charged romance.

1. Silver Linings Playbook.

This movie is brilliant. It's authentic and complex romance is unforgettable. It's a little slow at the first, but is definitely worth the time. Bradly Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence do an outstanding job. It's rated R for language.

2. This Means War.

This movie is really funny. I was pleasantly surprised by it. You will definitely fight with your friends over which guy she should of ended up with though. Whether you love the movie depends on if you're a Tom Hardy or a Chris Pine fan. The movie is rated PG-13 for sexuality.

3. Life As We Know It.

This movie is another one that starts out slow, but is worth sticking with. This is a good romantic comedy as well as a good family movie. The inappropriate content is mild. It's PG-13 for sexuality and drug use.

4. The Princess Bride.

You have to watch this movie a few time before you can appreciate it. It's strange and quirky, but it grows on you. It's a classic tale of "true love" and very quotable. It's rated PG for mild action and violence.

5. When Harry Met Sally.

Every one should watch this movie at least once at some point in time. Even if you haven't seen it, you've probably heard quotes from it. It's rated R for language and sexuality.

6. Take The Lead.

There's not really a main focus on a specific romance in this movie, but the over all feel of the movie is very romantic. Antonio Banderas really shines in his role as a dance instructor to a group of "school rejects". It has a lot of great dancing and is fused with passion. It's PG-13 for sexuality and language.

7. Safe Haven.

Yes, I'm putting Nicholas Sparks movies on the list. And yes, this is the second movie that I've listed with the actor Josh Duhamel. What can I say? He's just dreamy and perfect for romance movies. Give it a shot! It's rated G.

8. 17 Again.

This movie is oddly really romantic...even though the time warp plot makes the romance a little..warped. You gotta love it! It's hilarious and it's Zack Efron's best performance. It's rated PG-13 for sexuality and teen partying.

9. Tangled.

Yes, Tangled as in the kid movie. No matter what age you are, this movie is great! And just a heads up girls, you're going to be sad that you can never be with Flinn Ryder because he's...animated. Rated G.

10. Monte Carlo.

This is a total chick-flick and over used plot, but somehow it works. I totally recommend it for girl's night. It's rated PG for mild language.

11. The Last Song.

You just have to like this movie for one reason. Liam Hemsworth. It's rated PG for mild language and sexuality.

12. Becoming Jane.

I'm going to warn you. This movie is heart-wrenching, but you have to watch it. You will cry and get mad, yet still love it. It's rated PG for mild sexuality and brief partial nudity.

13. Green Card.

This movie is a little slow, but is a perfect pick for a cozy movie night. It's rated PG-13 for mild sexuality and brief language.

14. What Women Want.

You will love and hate this movie. Watch it and find out why. It's rated PG-13 for Sexuality, Language, and brief nudity.

These are all very good (besides 17 again) but no Shallow Hall. Otherwise good list, love the princess bride.
