2 Broke Girls
A Guilty Pleasure
Only in its sophmore season, 2 Broke Girls on cbs.com is a relatively new comedy. However, it operates as a well oiled machine and is the perfect treat at the end of a long Monday. Led by Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs , the show sports a well rounded cast with fantastic comic timing. While there are aspects of the show that are slightly formulaic, this also creates an air of comfort. When I sit down to watch the show, I know I'm in for a half hour full of laughs and I always have an uplifted spirit at the end.
Monday Night Pick-me-up
And we all need one of those
Mondays are far from anyone's favourite day. 2 Broke Girls creates a reason to look forward to the dreaded begining of the week. After a long day back at work, this is the perfect show to kick back and relax with. As its title suggests, the show follows two girls who struggle to make ends meet while still pursuing their dreams. Max is a waitress who has grown up on the wrong side of the tracks. She's perfectly happy working as a waitress at a small diner, though in large part because she has never known anything different. When Caroline, a former billionare heiress who has lost all her money because of her father's poor choices, wanders into the diner in need of a job, Max's life is turned upside down. She finds herself taking in the newly broke Caroline and the two reluctantly become friends.
It doesn't take long for Caroline to discoer Max's talent for baking. Max brings homemade cupcakes to the diner each day to sell, though more as a way to make a bit of pocket change than anything else. Caroline is a graduate of Warton Buisiness School and pounces on the opportunity to turn Max's hobby into a full fledged buisiness. She convinces Max that they should open their own cupcake shop, and once Max agrees, the hilarity ensues. Between Max's complete lack of buisness sense and Caroline's adjustment to a normal life, there is never a dull moment.
Along with sharing in Max and Caroline's journey, the viewer is treated to a cast of unforgettable characters. The diner's owner, Han, is endearing in his naivete. Earl, my personal favourite, is the cashier at the diner and is never without a sassy comment. Oleg, the cook, can make anything into a reason to flirt and his girlfriend Sophie matches him step for step. These characters are brought to life by an incredible cast, led by Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs. The chemistry between the actors is one of the bright spots that makes the show so enjoyable to watch. 2 Broke Girls is a rare treat on the dreaded Monday. Still going strong
As we enter season 2, we find Max and Caroline hoping for a call from Martha Stewart. In season 1's finale, the two girls met the business mogul and were thrilled when she said she liked their cupcakes. Instead of just waiting patiently, they decide to take matters into their own hands and end creating a mess. In the end, though, Martha comes through and prints a blurb about their business in her magazine. Inspiried and motivated, Max and Caroline continue to strive towards their goal. They are eventually able to borrow money from Sophie and open their cupcake shop. Of course, nothing goes as planned. If you still aren't watching this show, now is the time to join in!
