The Best Top Movies of 2010 List - Vampires, Sci-Fi, Fantasy And More!
2010: Best Movies List
The following is a selection of my personal picks for movies of 2010. This was a fantastic year for movies! In fact, many of my absolutely favorite movies came out within this year. The best thing about this list is that all of these are available now on DVD or Blu-Ray to buy or rent today.
I'd also love to get your input, so as you browse this list, if you notice an awesome movie from 2010 that you don't see here, leave it in the comments and tell visitors a little about why you believe it's a great movie. Not only will I watch it for myself, because good movies can be hard to come by, but I'll also include it in the list and provide a link to your profile here on HubPages if you have one.
How about a little spin down memory lane? Let's see what 2010 has to offer. Get your popcorn ready, and let's take a look at the top movies of 2010.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
This movie delivered for fans of the books, fans of vampire movies, and people who enjoy romance and action. That probably seems like a broad broad sweep, and it's usually the case when you try to be everything to everyone you miss the mark, but I found this movie really did have a lot to offer to a diverse audience. While female viewers are apt to enjoy watching the drama of Edward versus Jacob, and the the whole "love triangle" situation that entails, there's still a lot to offer male viewers, as well, who are more likely to appreciate the impressive fight scenes. Overall, even if you haven't read the books, the movies are definitely worth checking out, and Eclipse doesn't disappoint.
This was a movie I wouldn't normally have given a shot. It's nothing personal, but I just didn't think I'd be that interested in this style of film. I still hadn't seen the first Tron, but I had gotten the impression that if I didn't have tape on my glasses or a pocket protector, this movie wasn't for me. Boy, was I wrong. The storyline was surprisingly interesting, and the special effects truly impressive. Not being a huge fan of CGI, I was surprised by just how much I liked this movie. Even the acting was far better than expected. It's definitely a unique and engaging film that anyone, particularly those who like action and science fiction, will enjoy. There's also relationship elements at play here, so that will keep the interest of those who like a little more depth than the typical "shoot and blow things up" sort of movies.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I
This is an absolutely amazing movie. I can't express how much this movie had me psyched to see the final installment of the Harry Potter series. It was almost difficult to watch knowing that it was going to end prematurely, and the Part 2 wouldn't be released until nearly a year later. And, although, this movie obviously lacks some closure being the first part of a two part production, it definitely seems like a full movie in and of itself. The entire atmosphere this movie builds is just incredible. The world depicted seems so real and the characters are masterful written and acted. The special effects are second to none. This is a movie that can't be missed, but I'd have to recommend you watch any missed Harry Potter movies first. I must say that this is one of those rare moments where the movies actually get better as they go along. I think that's largely a testament to the books and their excellent adaptation to the screen.
Kick-Ass is a great superhero movie that comes at the genre from a whole different angle. It's all about ordinary people taking on extraordinary roles. There's a lot of comedy and action in this film. It may have fallen short in some respects, but it's a very fun movie with entertaining characters and a decent storyline. Fans of the whole superhero genre will probably enjoy it, and appreciate it's unique take on becoming a crime-fighting vigilante. This movie definitely isn't aimed at kids, though, and is at times crude and excessively violent. It's high on action and has quite a few laughs to offer, and is sure to entertain. It brings a lot of realism to a fairly unrealistic theme, and is overall a very well produced film.
Alice in Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland is, first off, not a remake of the original story. It's actually a continuation that begins several years afterward. This was not always immediately understood by those who heard of the film, but didn't look into it or watch it for themselves. Appreciating it for what it is, it's a fun movies with lots of good special effects and it does justice to the spirit of the Alice in Wonderland. The costumes are a big attraction in this movie, and there is a lot of creative and colorful elements. It's worth seeing, especially if you are a fan of either the book by Lewis Carroll or the earlier movies. That is stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter bears remarking, as well, and he performs admirably in this role, as one would expect.
Not since the Matrix has there been a movie which has left me questioning the nature of reality. This is really one of those films that can have a profound effect upon you, if you immerse yourself within it and really consider the concept it's based upon. It's extremely high action, and there's quite a few twists and turns to be had. The ending is quite striking and appropriate. This is a must see film of 2010, and if you're a fan of the Matrix especially, you don't want to miss this. The special effects are very well done, with huge scenes portrayed in a realistic and impressive manner. The storyline is very compelling and the actors carry their roles quite well.
Iron Man 2
The sequel to a fantastic superhero movie, and worth seeing for fans of the original. I found it wasn't quite as good as the first movie, but still really enjoyed it. The "villain" in this one is a very interesting character, and frankly comes across pretty human at times, whereas Stark does sort of seem to deserve a bit of an ass-kicking with that trademark pompous attitude he has. There is, of course, plenty of ass-kicking to go around in this one, and Marvel proves once again that it is able to dominant the comic book hero genre. Great special effects and a pretty clever storyline combine to make an entertaining movie that is most suited for those who enjoyed the first in the series.
