Modern Actresses - Anne Hathaway
UPDATED: June 16, 2014: This hub was originally (under the title of "2012 The Year Of Anne Hathaway") written in the midst of the Oscar Campaign of 2012. I have tweaked it a bit to fit under a new series of hubs dedicated to "Modern Actresses".Where I will hub about... well, Modern Actresses!
Like most of you reading this, The first time I saw Anne Hathaway was in the 2001 Movie The Princess Diaries. I was instantly taken in by her acting (and her beauty was nothing to complain about, either). She took what should have been just another Disney movie and delivered a performance that instantly drew raves from critics and audiences all over the world. I doubt any other actress at that time could have done that. The movie went on to be a box office hit, shocking everyone by being a G-Rated teen flick in a market ruled by raunchy R Rated fare like American Pie, Road Trip, Varsity Blues, etc.
In the years since, She has overcame the label of "The Next Julia Roberts" becoming her own brand. She is one of the modern film era's most popular actresses and critically acclaimed. She has been nominated for many awards and was favored to win the 2008 Best Actress Oscar for Rachel Getting Married. She Lost to Kate Winslet for The Reader.
Which brings us to the topic of my hub: 2012 was a busy year for Miss Hathaway.
In July 2012, She finally got to star in a huge comic book movie with The Dark Knight Rises as Selina Kyle AKA The Catwoman. (Remember, she was supposed to be The Vulturess in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 before it was shelved to give way to a reboot and in subsequent interviews she lamented that she may never get to star in a big comic book movie). When it was first announced she had the role, The Internet (The Modern day Peanut's Gallery ) was almost shut down due to all the hate going her way. Even I had reservations of her casting. I am fan of hers but I did not think she was right for the part. The first photos and video that leaked from the shoot didn't help sway the public opinion. I chose to hold my judgement until seeing the film. Now that I have, I feel that, like the thief she plays, She stole the movie from the main villain Bane, played by Tom Hardy. If I was a Member of the voting academy, I'd remember this performance. She was The Best Catwoman since Michelle Pfeiffer.
She then made headlines in September for her wedding to fellow actor Adam Schulman.
The film that she will be nominated for is Les Miserables, I have not seen the film yet but everyone I have to spoke to that has, can't stop talking about her performance as Fantine. She definitely should look into a singing career if this acting thing doesn't work out for her...
Indeed, Anne was nominated and won Best Actress Oscar at the Academy Awards for her role as Fantine in Les Miserable. She then took a break from acting and will be back this November in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.
