2015 Daytime Emmys: Who Will Win?
Each year the Daytime Emmys are full of surprises, this year we saw many fan favorites along with a few first-timers receive nominations. After watching the reels, you'll see why these actors and actresses are deserving of their nominations.
The nominees for this year put on tremendous performances. If you haven't already done so, I recommend you check out the reels to watch these emotional performances from these amazing stars.
As with all award shows, there can only be one winner (although there have been a few double winners in the past) so whose going to walk away a winner on Sunday night?
Read below for my predictions on this year's winners.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Days of Our Lives
The Young and the Restless
My Thoughts: The Bold and the Beautiful’s submission relied more on action instead of drama so I think that’s going to work against them. Each of the other three shows offer superb writing and acting, however I think that General Hospital and The Young and the Restless are the top contenders leading into the awards show.
My Prediction: Y&R won last year with Delia’s Death and the aftermath of the storyline is what’s going to lead them to scoring another win this year.
Billy J Miller
My Thoughts: Anthony Geary gave a devishly performance as Fake Luke taunted the real Luke, who was locked up in an asylum. Christian LeBlanc was pushed back into lead actor status as his character Michael faced the reality of his cancer diagnosis. Co-star Billy Miller ended his tenure at Y&R with a bang as Billy held Adam at gunpoint making him confess to killing Delia. Jason Thompson scored his third nomination as Lead Actor and while his performance is emotional, it's overshadowed by the other nominees.
My Prediction: It's a two man race between Geary and Miller, but look for Geary to come out on top and score his 8th Daytime Emmy.
My thoughts: I feel like this is the wildcard category because all five actresses gave tremendous performances.Peggy McCay's reel is heartwarming as she recounted a story during Will and Sonny's wedding. After 20 years, Alison Sweeney finally received a nomination. She's done amazing work over the years and she deserved more noms along with a win or two, this Sunday is her one and only chance to take home an Emmy. I was surprised by Gina Tognoni's reel submission, her preformance proved why she's a two-time Emmy winner and the perfect choice as the new Phyllis, however I felt like the reveal of Summer's paternity would've been a better choice for her reel. General Hospital's Maura West and Laura Wright both gave teary-eyed performances, which may garner them another Emmy to put on their shelves.
My prediction: Sweeney has a slight edge over the others with a 25 minute reel and given that she left Days of our Lives earlier this year an Emmy is a good way to cap off her run as Sami Brady.
Kristoff St. John
My Thoughts: Kristoff St. John's reel was amazing, yet if focused more on Malcolm and had too many flashbacks. Scott Clifton's reel proved why he's a two-time winner in this category, yet I felt that his performance is something we've already seen from him. Chad Duell showcased Michael’s anger and left viewers in suspense as he confronted Sonny over AJ’s murder. Jacob Young has been on fire the last few months as Rick, he conveyed anger and sadness in his reel as he dealt with the betrayal of Caroline kissing Ridge.
My Prediction: This is Jacob Young's award to lose. The only person I see giving him competition is Chad Duell.
My Thoughts: Let’s start with Y&R’s divas Heinle and Hendrickson. Amelia Heinle's looking to score another win, yet I don't think this is her year. The problem I had with her reel is it took a while to for her performance to reach its peak. Her co-star Hendrickson departed the show earlier and personally I'd love to see her win since I felt like she was robbed last year. Linsey Godfrey was thrust into a huge storyline this year which saw Caroline betraying her husband by kissing Ridge, her reel showed her best performance to date since joining B&B. Finola Hughes is one of daytime’s best actresses and a GH favorite, it’s been 24 years since her last win and she’s long overdue for another. Her co-star Lisa Locicero's reel had me crying and laughing, even though it was mostly based on comedy I wouldn’t count her out of the race.
My Prediction: Linsey Godfrey is the fan favorite to win and I think she has a good chance to take home the Emmy. Yet, I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes or Locicero name is called.
My Thoughts: For younger actor I see General Hospital co-stars Bryan Craig and Tequan Richmond duking it out for the award. Freddie Smith's reel didn't move me as much as the others so he was eliminated early on. Max Ehrich gave an emotional performance as his character Fen learned that his dad had cancer, yet the reel was too short and I felt like Ehrich didn't get a chance to show off his acting chops. Craig and Richmond gave the most riveting performances; Craig proved his talent when Morgan faced off with his father Sonny. Richmond’s is filled with emotion that you feel your heart breaking for him.
My Prediction: Many felt that Bryan Craig was robbed last year and I'm looking for him to capture the gold on Sunday.
Hunter Haley King
My Thoughts: In this category previous Emmy winners Alderson and King face off with first time nominees Camila Banus and Haley Pullos. Alderson and King's reels were good, yet I felt their performances weren't on par with their previous work. Banus and Pullos gave the most emotional performances, from beginning to end their reels are knockouts.
My Prediction: It was tough to choose between the two, but in the end I'm going with Banus to win the gold.
