5 Birthday and Christmas Gifts for Women Who are Salsa Dancers
About this list
I'm a professional salsa and Latin dance instructor and have been dancing salsa since 2005. My friends always ask what to get me and I say "Get me something I use for salsa dancing!" So if you have a salsa dancing woman in your life, whether it's a family member, spouse, friend or coworker, one of these options will be sure to make her happy!
I came up with a list of gift ideas that allow you to choose the amount you are comfortable spending because I know that birthdays and holidays can easily break the bank. It is up to you to decide how much you want to spend on a gift and I tried to find some more affordable gift options which I provided on the Amazon links below each section. I found things that I would enjoy receiving, so use these as inspiration on your gift-giving journey.
Do you dance salsa?
Which woman are you buying a gift for?
1) Statement Necklace or Jewelry
Salsa dancing is all about sparkle and pizzaz. Statement necklaces are a great gift idea for any woman salsa dancer because she can wear it whenever she goes out dancing salsa or any other time. I have about 10 statement necklaces right now and they're a perfect addition to any salsa ensemble. Statement jewelry is super popular among salsa dancers and in-style both on and off of the dance floor.
You can buy statement necklaces online or in store, and it's up to you to decide how to much to spend on them, making it a very flexible gift option for your budget. What I love about buying statement necklaces is that you can get a lot of bling for your buck, so if you find more than one that you love, or think that she will, get both, because you can never have too many statement necklaces!
2) Salsa Dresses, Skirts and Tops
As someone who goes out salsa dancing a lot, in addition to all of my teaching, I constantly find myself wanting new salsa clothes that everyone hasn't already seen me in. If you know your salsa woman's size, you can get her a nice dress, top and/or skirt that she can use to go out salsa dancing in. When shopping, I recommend something that fits her existing fashion style, and which is NOT a costume. So basically what you're looking for is "going-out" or "nightclub" clothing that is tasteful and classy that won't cause any fashion "oops" moments. Pick something short sleeved and lightweight so that she won't get too hot dancing in it. Bonus points if you get a statement necklace to go with it!
3) Dance Bag
As a dancer, I find it very convenient to have a large bag/purse that I can put all of my dancerly things into, like my dance shoes, water bottle, snacks, etc. so this way I don't have to carry all of it separately. Plus it looks nicer to have a pretty bag that you can put all of your things into rather than a gym bag or shopping bag. Look for something big with shoulder straps so it's easy to carry.
If your salsa woman loves salsa music, consider getting her an Amazon or iTunes gift card so she can download some of her favorite salsa songs. You can also get her a commercial free subscription to an online radio station like Pandora that she can listen to on her smartphone, tablet or computer. If you think she has enough music, you can get her wireless Bluetooth speaker/music player so this way she can listen to salsa music conveniently from her smartphone. Do a little bit of research and find out what she's lacking musically.
5) Prepaid Lessons/Classes and Salsa Events
If your salsa woman regularly takes dance classes or lessons at a particular studio, consider getting her a gift certificate for one month's worth of group classes (~$50-100 depending) or prepaying for private dance lessons with a teacher. You can also get her tickets to a salsa event, such as a Salsa Congress or Salsa Concert if you know of an event that she is interested in, but hasn't bought the tickets for yet. Do some research and find out what she wants to do, and use it as an opportunity for you to do something together!

I hope that you found at least one thing on this suggested gift list that you think might be appropriate to give. Do some research and ask her subtle questions about things she is interested in so this way you can find her something thoughtful and meaningful that she will enjoy and use!
