5 Anime Every Fan Should Watch

Updated on March 21, 2017

Anime! Loved by so many around the world. Their stories and characters have captured our imaginations for decades. Anime as a whole has only risen in popularity over recent years all over the world and has gained lifelong fans in the process. While there are a great many excellent anime out there to see here are five which I believe every fan, new or old, should see. Take the poll below and tell us which is your favorite!

#1 Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop is the story of Spike Spiegal and his ragtag crew aboard their space ship the Bebop. Throughout the show Spike and his crew of bounty hunters track down and attempt to capture fugitives for big pay days. The show offers great characters fun stories and lots of action. The best part of the show would have to be the music. Each episode offers a new type of music genre that compliments the story whether it be jazz metal and yes you guess it, bebop. I would recommend this excellent show to anyone who has loved anime for years or is just getting into it!

#2 Death Note

Next on the list is Death Note. Where Cowboy Bebop is fun and action packed, Death Note is dark and highly plot driven. The story centers on Light, a young brilliant student who comes across a notebook with the power to take the life of anyone who's name is written in it. Light begins to use the notebook to take the lives of anyone he deems unfit to live. The story kicks into high gear when the enigmatic detective L comes into the mix, who is determined to take down the one responsible for the mass deaths that have been taking place. With this, Death Note becomes one of the greatest cat and mouse games that has ever played out in any anime. The show offers a look into human nature and the true essence of good and evil and how blurred the line between the two can become.

#3 Yu Yu Hakusho

Here is one of my personal favorites. If you're looking for more action Yu Yu Hakusho is for you. Young rebelious Yusuke Urameshi is given a second chance at life after being hit by car saving a young child. The only catch is he is now a spirit dectetive charged with the duty of keeping Demons and other entities from invading the living plain. With the help of his friends Yusuke battles many foes and overcomes many obstacles to keep their world safe. I would recommend this show to anyone show is looking for a fun action packed anime with great characters.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the second go for the FMA series. Unlike its predecessor titled Full Metal Alchemist, FMA: Brotherhood follows the events of the Manga much more faithfully. The story of two brothers, Edward and Alfonse Elrich and their journey to reclaim their bodies after a tragic incident in which they used the science of Alchemy to resurrect their deceased mother. FMA: Brotherhood is one of the most in depth anime and also one of the best looking with top of the line animation. What really makes FMA: Brotherhood stand out is the bond between the two brothers. Their dark past mixed with their journey to right their greatest wrong is one that captures the mind and engages you on a whole other level.

#1 The Dragon ball series

And here it is the number one Anime every fan should see. The Dragon ball series has spanned four different sagas if you include Dragon ball GT, which is no longer considered cannon. The story centers on the hero Goku and his quest to protect his friends and the magical dragon balls from those with evil intentions. As the series progresses Goku grows along side his friends and family as they fight to protect the earth and eventually the Universe. Without Dragon ball it is safe to say that Anime would not be nearly as popular around the world. With the most likeable heroes and the most menacing villians Dragon ball is at the top of the list when it comes to action. Over the past thirty years the franchise has spawned multiple series movies and video games and now has recently returned under the title Dragon ball Super. It is safe to say that Dragon ball is the most beloved franchise in all of anime history. Because at the end of the day there isn't much else that is cooler than a super sayian!

Of these anime, the most accessible for new comers is Death Note, and DBZ. YuYu's too old, and I guess FMAB is too complicated. I don't know, I can't understand the logic of casuals trying too hard to fit in the fandom.

As for my opinion. DBZ's my favorite anime, and while I like the other anime listed, they're not in my top three, though I think YuYu and FMAB are in my top 10. Not sure, never bothered to rank them.
