Naruto

Naruto is an extremely popular anime about ninjas. Follow Naruto, a social outcast due to the fact that he has a nine-tailed demon sealed within him. This nine-tail demon fox destroyed the village during the 12 years before the start of the anime. As a result, people detested Naruto because of that. Seeking validation and wanting to prove to his villagers that he himself can be a great ninja, he vowed to become Hokage some day.

Since Naruto always did not get any attention, he would always cause trouble and be mischievous. As a result, his sensei, Iruka, always had to punish him. However, one day, he was tricked by Mizuki to steal a forbidden scroll that would teach him a powerful secret technique. Iruka stopped him and almost died trying to save him. Naruto proceeds to defeat Mizuki using the shadow clone technique that he learned from the scroll. Naruto eventually gets assigned to a team alongside Sasuke and Sakura. This is where the journey begins.

Naruto also has a sequel, which is Naruto Shippudden. It is highly recommended that you watc Naruto before watching the sequel.

Actually, Death Note and D.Gray-Man are close to the same genre. I've recommended both to my friends and they adore them- I believe both are quite amazing :)

Unfortunately, I could not make it through D.Gray-man; it was very substandard and the main character was in no way appealing or endearing to me. I can usually stomach mediocre characters if there's action, but D.Gray-man even had cliché monster-fight sequences which bored me. Very typical anime.

I can't agree that Death Note is like D.Gray-man. In fact, they're not similar AT ALL. I would swap out that pick for Devil May Cry, another uninspiring, monster-fighting anime with typical characters.

For those who like D.Gray-man, I might recommend: 07-Ghost, Trinity Blood, Chrome Shelled Regios, Kekkaishi, Rental Magica, Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler), Samurai Deeper Kyou, Busou Renkin, and Code Geass.
