7 Predictions/Suggestions for Star Wars Episode VII

Updated on August 23, 2014

All right, I would like to revisit a galaxy far, far away once more. In this particular article, I would like to make a few predictions and suggestions based on the previous two Star Wars Trilogies. I would like to begin with crediting my brother for one of these just like he helped me with the idea for my Darth Article.

Prediction/Suggestion #1: Show us some new alien races.

This is sci-fi. We need more aliens. Perhaps some of the races that are mentioned in The Original Trilogy but have never really been shown could appear on screen. One of these races could be the Bothans. Perhaps, you know we could have a Bothan spy, who could possibly die.

Please no Darth Caedus though

Prediction/Suggestion #2: Jacen and Jaina or at least some iteration of them should be main characters.

All right, I am not going to say that they definitely have to be named Jacen and Jaina, but the Star Wars Trilogies both focused on The Skywalker Family, which now probably includes The Solo Family. This one should continue to do that. Han and Leia should be married, and they should have kids.

Prediction/Suggestion #3: Type of Story should be the passing of the torch to the next generation.

This is the most obvious one and seems to be confirmed with some things that Mark Hamill has said about the movie. The movie should be about passing the torch to the next generation of Solos/Skywalkers. As much as I love the old cast, they have had their story told. They have battled the evil empire, and they have overcome. Luke Skywalker has faced the darkness within himself and has become a Jedi like his father before him. Now, it is time to see a new generation of Jedis and scoundrels gallivanting about the galaxy, fighting evil, and generally owning. This of course makes me hope that the new cast is good. I think that the movie will most likely focus on Jacen and Jaina Solo. Another reason for the passing of the torch story is that we have already had the redemption story (quite well done actually) with The Original Trilogy and the fall from grace story (poorly done) with The Prequel Trilogy. It is time for a passing of the torch story. And yes, Jacen and Jaina should obviously have to struggle with the Dark Side.

Prediction/Suggestion #4: We need a new type of villain.

This was something that my brother convinced me of. As much as I really like the Sith and wish for there to be epic lightsaber battles like in the preview for the game Star Wars: The Old Republic, the Sith have been beaten. We have had the Sith around for two trilogies now. To borrow from my brother, we have done the Kryptonians versus Superman, now we need Lex Luthor. We need some cold calculating villain, possibly bald. Perhaps, he has some Dark Jedi that he is able to maneuver around the game board, but this man should be a chess player, not a Palpatine. He might still have the force, but it should be a weak connection. Perhaps, he is skilled at seeing the future, but he cannot do much else. Basically, this person should be a master tactician like Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Prediction/Suggestion #5: People need to die.

Han, Leia, Luke, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C3-PO have all waltzed through one trilogy or in the case of the droids two trilogies, but now, it is time for someone to meet his end. This could be a great setup for the inciting incident of the movie. Now, I personally want to have some Harrison Ford in this movie because he is awesome. Also I think that there should be another plan for what to do with Luke. Chewbacca, R2-D2, or C3-PO dying would probably not have the same emotional impact as one of the three main humans dying. This leaves Leia as the clear choice. Before you accuse me of sexism here though, there is actually a more logical plot reason for this as well. She should have become the president, chancellor, prime minister, or consul whatever you want to call it of The New Republic. This is something that really only Leia (of the original characters) will be able to be. Because of this, she will be a massive target for assassination. The villain has her assassinated. This then starts a hunt in which Jacen and Jaina are both involved. Of course this sets up for their struggle with the Dark Side as they are in part seeking vengeance in their anger over their mother’s death. They begin to tread the deadly path of anger, fear, and aggression. This was another that my brother convinced me of.

Prediction/Suggestion #6: Luke Skywalker should have a wife.

Now, I am not saying that it has to be Mara Jade. As much as I like her character as created by Timothy Zahn, I understand that she might be a little hard to introduce in the movie. He should have a wife though. I mean come on; after everything he sacrificed for The New Republic, doesn’t he deserve some marital bliss? I also want this because I want them to drop all that idiotic Jedi do not marry crap from the prequel trilogy. They are knights, not monks! So Luke Skywalker should have a wife, and who knows maybe even a kid. That way we could easily set up a trio of new characters to go gallivanting around the galaxy. We could also do that with Anakin Solo of course. I will say that Luke’s wife should not be the horrible character Callista.

Seriously, dude. You have a beard. It is all over.
Seriously, dude. You have a beard. It is all over.

Prediction/Suggestion #7: Luke Skywalker will die.

This has tradition behind it. I mean seriously let us take a step back and look. Back in 1977 when A New Hope came out, we were introduced to a courageous kid, an awesome scoundrel, a daring princess, and a wise old Jedi Master. By the end of the movie, the Jedi Master was dead. Back in 1999 when A Phantom Menace came out, we were introduced to a daring queen, a courageous kid, a Jedi Apprentice, and an awesome Jedi Master. By the end of the movie, the Jedi Master was dead. Are you getting a theme here? In 2015, Luke Skywalker is probably going to be the Jedi Master, which means he is a deader. This will probably of course happen at the end of the movie. Also there is some good evidence pointing towards Luke having a beard in the movie. Yet again both Qui Gon and Obi-wan had beards.

As I have said in a previous article, I really trust J. J. Abrams. I am looking forward to this movie immensely and am expecting it to be a far better movie than any of the prequel trilogy. I believe that it will return Star Wars to the glory that it deserves. Of course, there is always a chance that it will turn out like Indiana Jones 4: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I shudder to think.

What really annoyed me about the movies was the battle droids with the sense of humor of five year olds. I mean first off when making a battle droid, I don't think lets give it a sense of hum, and I definitely don't lets give it the sense of humor of a five year old.

To be honest, I haven't seen all the episodes of the clone wars, as I've only seen a few episodes. Although I have talked to people that have seen most of if not all of the episodes, and it's a bit of a mixed bag. Some people tell me it's great, while others say it's not that good. I've seen the clone wars movie, and i thought that fairly mediocre.

Should've been a made for tv film. not a threatrically released one. Although I thought ahsoka was a cool character. However, the only problem that i had with her was that her presence kind of contradicted the first prequel film. Granted, the phantom menace was a piece of crap, but if i remember correctly, it was stated that the reason why Qui Gon couldn't take anakin as an apprentice because the jedi council said he already had one in obi wan, which begs the question as to why was Obi wan able to request for one in the clone wars movie?

Plus, they made it seem like in the prequel trilogy that one had to be a freaking Jedi master to have an apprentice, yet in the clone wars anakin was able to have one anyway without being a jedi master I don't know. it just never made any sense to me. but then again, i never followed the expanded universe stuff, so maybe it's explained there. But based on the movies, and the clone wars tv series alone, it doesn't make a whole of sense.

From what I've understood about what has been said about the EU is they've thrown it all out for the moment but some might be reincorporated depending on where they are going with the movie. This is actually a decision I applaud and defend because most the EU was crap. I'm going to have a few articles on that as well. Most of mine were not necessarily dependent on the EU. Han and Leia being married makes sense at the end of ROTJ. I mean after the entire romance that goes on in the trilogy, it isn't hard to predict that outcome. It is also set enough afterwards that they could easily have had some kids (who do not have to be Jaina and Jacen) From somethings that Mark Hamill has said that is the prediction that I fine the most likely actually. The prediction that I put the most thought into though was Luke Skywalker's death and part of me really does think that is going to happen and the other part really wants it happen as it would be a nice nodded to both The Original Trilogy and The Prequel Trilogy (which okay doesn't really deserve the nod). Personally, I wish they had thrown out The Clone Wars Cartoon Series as well. All of that said, I particularly trust J. J. Abrams in the making of this movie and am looking forward to it.

I have to admit those are some very good ideas that I think the new trilogy should try to incorporate. Although I doubt all these things you mentioned will make it though. I don't know if you heard this or not, but according to a few movie news sites, Lucas films and Disney have already said most of the expanded star wars universe is no longer cannon.

Disney made an announcement saying how only the movies, the cgi tv series (the clone wars), and the clone wars movie are cannon. While all the previous novels, video games, comic books, tv shows (that aren't clone wars) and etc are no longer cannon. However, they did say that any video games, movies, tv shows, books, comics and etc that get produced from here on out will be deemed cannon, but the ones prior to disney buying the rights aren't if that makes any sense.

So technically, they really don't have to include anything from the previous expanded universe that existed in the past. They could technically make stuff up if they wanted to, and there would be nothing we could do about it. However, knowing how J.J. Abrams handled star trek, I doubt he'd ignore the elements you brought up. I mean the guy went out of his way to have all these references to the old tv series of star trek in "Star Trek Into Darkness" just to make fans happy, so I'm sure he'll probably incorporate some of the elements from the expanded universe into the new movie. As far as how much? I honestly don't know.

However, it'll be interesting to see. Seeing a villain that isn't a sith might be interesting. Not to take away from light saber battles, but one of the things that made the prequels so damn stupid was the fact that there was simply too much of it. In the original trilogy, there were very few light saber battles, yet when we got them...they kicked a**. In the prequel trilogy, it was more like..."Oh gee...there's another light saber battle....oh well...i guess it has been like what? five minutes since the last one? Yawn."

I think if the new star trek films are any indication, then I think we're all in for a treat with the new star wars film coming up, as i can't wait to see what direction the franchise takes from here.

Although I still believe Avengers 2 will probably own 2015 at the box office now that "Batman vs Superman" got pushed back, but i think "Star Wars episode 7" might have a good chance at surprising quite a few people.
