8 Life Changing Movies for Teenagers

Movies are not only to entertain, but can have a great influence in the hearts and minds of anyone, especially teenagers. Here are life changing movies that are very inspiring and brings many valuable lessons.

To Save a Life

To Save a Life is a powerful movie of how one person can make a big difference. It deals with a lot of issues that plague our families and youth today: popularity, bullying, family problems, divorce, relationship issues, depression, suicide, underage drinking, sex, teen pregnancy, drugs, abusing oneself and cutting. It showed how Jake, high school senior, popular basketball player who is at center of the party world, but everything changes when an unpopular childhood friend commit suicide in the school hall. He began to question everything about himself and realized there may be a lot more to life than partying, popularity and sex. He reflected on his actions and how he treated his former childhood friend, who passed away. This incident taught him to evaluate his actions and how he should and should not treat all his peers. He learned to reach out to some new friends, not just the popular ones, and every type of person you would meet in high school. Jake found many ways to make his friend's traumatic death into a legacy.

This is a very life changing movie that will teach many teenagers to understand what is really important in life and high school as well as what is not important. It is a movie that can be shown to middle school/high school aged youth groups because it tackles the presenting issues today's youth faces. Many lessons can be learned from this movie, by choosing to be the one who can make a wide of influence and difference in someone's life. This should be a goal for teens today.

Goal!!The Dream Begins

This is such an inspirational movie about the dreams in our heart that may seem impossible. It is about how Santiago's father brought his son to the United States to have a better life. He worked at a restaurant and also helped his dad with his gardening business. His dream was to play soccer professionally. That dream begins to come to pass when a former British professional player noticed he is a natural at soccer. This British professional player made arrangements to try out in England. But there are many challenges and opposition he has to undergo before getting to England.

Homeless to Harvard

This movie is based on the true story of Liz Murray. As a kid, she grew up with parents who had a drug addiction and who were mentally ill. She was then taken out of the horrible home environment and placed in the foster care system. Watch as this teenager has to parent her own self, be responsible, learn things on her own, choose to make decisions and endure rough times. It is a very moving movie. Her entire story is detailed in her book, 'Breaking night : a memoir of forgiveness, survival, and my journey from homeless to Harvard.'

Slow Fade (2010)

This movie shows how easily sin can pull people like a slow fade. This is about a teen who slowly goes down the wrong path. He is being influenced by his friends and the media. He started to rebel and his life makes a turn for the worst. It started damaging his relationships. But then help came from an unlikely mentor who taught him about making the right choices in every area of his life. This is a very inspirational movie about showing us seeing how our actions and choices can affect everything and everyone around us.

Blind Side

This is based on the true story of the Tuophy family. This white couple took in a homeless teenage who is African-American, "Big Mike." Michael's mother is a drug addict and has no clue who his father is. Michael has had little education and some skills to help him learn. The mom of the family, Leigh Anne ensures that this young man has a loving home, family, and every opportunity to be successful. When he expressed an interest in football, she goes out of the way to help him in that area. It is a very heartwarming movie.



Freedom Writers

This is wonderful inspirational movie with lots of valuable lessons to learn from and think about. It is based on the book, Freedom Writers Diary and is the author is a teacher, Erin Gruwell. Hilary Swank took on the role of Erin Gruwell.

The movie is about Erin Gruwell who is beginning her first teaching job as a high school English teacher in the slums of the city. This young teacher faces some challenging tasks. She goes through opposition from the students, gangs tension break out, and her supervisor does not comply with her strategy to educate these young people. Even some teachers give her a hard time. She still perseveres, does not give up because her main aim is only to make a difference in each life of these inner city young people. Her new class project is for each student everyone to keep a journal and make daily entries.

She seeks the approval and consent of her students to eventually read the journals, and this helps her to connect with them. This has helped to understands the pain in their lives and hardships they have faced. This has driven her to become even more influential in their lives and education. She gave these students hope, faith inspiration in dreaming and becoming what never thought they could be and become

This is a heartwarming film for students with low self-confidence and low self-worth. It also taught about perseverance in the midst of challenges, and to believe in one's dream despite your background, racial pressures, and the views and opinions of others and not to let anyone put you down. All it takes is one person to believe in you and fight for you and for your future. Anything is possible and anything can happen, but it begins in how you view yourself.

Joshua

The town of Auburn was just a normal, common town. The people were not really united. Everyone lived their own lives. But then Joshua, the stranger came into this town one day and began helping out in small ways. He started to build relationships with the people there. He worked to help others where it was needed and sought to bring change in the lives of the people in the community. It is a wonderful, moving movie and there are moments of humor in it also. The town where people went their separate ways turned into a community helping others.



LAY IT DOWN

This is action packed movie that is full of drama about the teenage world of illegal street racing. The Destin brothers are the king of street racing, but an event changed his life and then he encourages his friends to go the same path he has chosen.
