500 Days of Summer is basically a break up movie. Apparently, Tom and summer seem like the perfect couple. They both love Bruce Springsteen and The Smiths and they seem to get along so well.

The problem is that Tom is a desperately romantic greeting card writer whereas Summer is a relationship pessimist who does not want to end up like her divorced parents. Summer doesn’t believe true love exists. Tom gets into a serious fight with a man who flirts with Summer and they have their first quarrel.

After some time, Tom and Summer decide to end their relationship. Tom doesn’t take the break up well, and his friends call his younger sister Rachel to soothe him. As Tom gets to realize that loving Summer can’t maker her love him in return, Summer learns that it is possible to share a life with somebody else even if it’s not the perfect man. The helpless Cal decides to spend most of his free evenings sulking all alone at a local bar. Will Cal continue with this behavior or will he ever come out of this depression?

A man realizes that there are so much more to love than simply having a great mixed tape. Rob, an infatuated record player in his thirties, is struggling to harmonize his teenage like for pop music with grown-up responsibilities and a more mature attitude. He operates a record shop which does not seem to produce profit. However, Rob’s biggest concern is his falling relationship with Laura, a lawyer who requires more out of this relationship than Rob can possibly offer.

To Rob’s surprise, Laura starts going out with Ian, his upstairs neighbor, who is known in the entire building for his immoral acts. On the other hand, Rob catches the attention of a singer and songwriter, Marie DeSalle, as he tries to cope with the breakup by chasing after his previous girlfriends and also taking a new look what he has been doing wrong.

Better off Dead

Lane Meyer is a love struck teenage boy who is hopelessly in love with Beth. When Beth dumps him for the popular captain of the ski team, Lane’s whole day quickly goes to hell. He is bullied, beleaguered and torn apart by everyone from the paper boy, who appears to show up all over the place to the ghostly voice of a radio deejay. Lane Meyer attempts suicide in vain. His ultimate escape comes in the form of a French exchange student who develops a long-distance crush for him.

This movie follows Bridget, a post feminist middle-aged British woman who likes alcoholic overindulges, smoking and is unable to control her body weight. While she’s trying to work on all these things and deal with her publishing job at the same time, she pays a visit to her parents for Christmas party. Her parents try to hook her up with a neighbor’s visiting son, Mark. Affronted by Mark, Bridget instead falls in love with her boss Daniel, a handsome lothario who starts her evocative emails which soon lead to dinner date prepositions. Daniel discloses Mark and him were college mates during which Mark had a romantic relationship with his fiancé.

When Bridget finds out that Daniel is cavorting with his American colleague, she chooses to make a change in her life by getting another job as a television presenter. She met Mark by chance at a party, who expresses his feelings for her. When Daniels claims to want Bridget back, they both fight to see who deserves her the most.

While his ex-girlfriend seems to be in heaven with her new boyfriend, a brokenhearted Peter becomes friends with compassionate hotel member of staff Rachel. When Rachel and Peter’s relationship start to click, Sarah gets envious and decides to take back her claim. Immediately when Peter starts to think that Sarah could be the right woman for him, he sees her for who she truly is and realizes that his ideal match has been by his side all that time.

Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind

In this movie, Joel contracts a company to rub out every single memory of his ex-girlfriend Clementine after he finds out that she had that procedure done first. As his memories fade away one after another, Joel struggles to hang on to the good times. As his last memory gets wiped out, the Clementine in his mind tells him to meet her in Montauk.

A few days after this, Joel finds himself on a train to Montauk and mysteriously drawn to a woman named Clementine. As they reawaken their love without remembering the past, these ill-fated lovers prove that it is impossible not to remember someone who once moved your soul.

War of the Roses

This comedy shows us just how horrible divorce can get and how interesting it can be to watch when you are not the victim. As Oliver and Barbara’s flawless marriage unravels, the two grown adults are reduced to acting like children. Furniture is damaged, animals are accidentally killed, and nasty jokes are played, all in the name of taking revenge. It’s not until too late that the couple recalls why they fell in love in the first place.

Helen Quilley is a woman who has just been fired from her job. From this point, the movie splits into two similar worlds. In one, Helen catches her train and gets her boyfriend in bed with his ex-girlfriend. This puts Helen on the road to true love and fulfillment with someone different. In the other timeline, Helen fails to catch her train, which provides her cheating boyfriend with sufficient time to send his ex away.

Helen clearly continues with their relationship until she finds out that her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend is pregnant with his baby. Soon after that, Helen knocks unconscious and sees flashes of what a life with her real love could be. When she awakens in the hospital, she tells her player boyfriend to get lost. All set for a fresh start, she steps onto the elevator to leave the hospital where she finally meets her dream man.

Conclusion

These are just some of the movies like 500 Days of Summer. These movies are kind of sad but they are also entertaining. I strongly recommend you check them out!

      I loved 500 days of summer... added bonus, the soundtrack to that movie was awesome! I've seen all of these movies except Better off Dead and Sliding Doors. I'll have to be sure to check them out. Crazy, Stupid, Love was surprisingly funny (and Ryan Gosling with no shirt doesn't hurt!) .. My favourite out of this list though is the War of The Roses. That is hands down one of my favourite movies of all time.... The part where she makes Michael Douglas think he just ate his dog... Priceless. lol.
