10 Unintentionally Funny Songs

Updated on February 15, 2019

When something is unintentionally funny, it usually falls into the cringy territory. Be prepared for a lot of cringe. Who knows what these people were thinking when they came up with this stuff, but thankfully these are immortalized into the internet. Surprisingly enough, these songs can be purchased. Maybe it would make a great gag gift to confuse a friend.

“Once You Understand” by Think

Once You Understand - By Think.

A single by, Laurie Records Released in 1971. This is about the relationship between parent and children, and culture change of conservatives and liberals viewpoints. This may be one of the cheesiest songs I've ever heard. A repetitious chorus, with uptight parents and their ungrateful children arguing in the foreground. There's a huge shift in tone, specifically with how the end was handled so suddenly. It just stops becoming a song after all the repetition and hits you with a police officer telling a father that his son died. Yikes.

“Lucy in the Sky (With Diamonds)” by William Shatner

Something about hearing William Shatner singing just makes me laugh every time. His vocal energy was not meant for music. His performance is weird. I have to wonder if this was done as a parody, or to appeal to people who like getting high. Part of the song is pretty catchy though.

“Mr. Tambourine Man” by William Shatner

Yes, another William Shatner song.

“Christmas Shoes” Alabama Plus

This may be more of a dumb one than a funny one. The guy almost narrates in a pretentious serious way, akin to what I would expect from a Team America: World Police song. I can see how some people can find this song to be more "sad" than funny. I just find it funny because of the terrible logic of the young boy. He wants to buy shoes for his dying mom, so she looks good when she dies for Jesus.. as if you take clothes with you to a supposed afterlife. The little boy should have instead spent that time with his mother. But I guess that naivety of the child is supposed to be cute and precious.

Here's a funny animated review of the song.

Patton Oswalt - Christmas Shoes

“Jesus Is My Friend” by Sonseed

I could do a whole article about unintentionally funny religious songs, but let's keep it at one for now. Whether you're religious or not, you'll most likely find this extremely corny. Mostly they are just saying "Jesus is my friend" over and over. It's unfortunately very catchy...

“This Guy's In Love With You” by Kevin Rowland

What makes part of this funny... I have to admit is mostly the cover and seeing the title of the song and hearing the song all at once. The song itself is... fine in it's own way. It's not sung horribly, but not very well either. I can dig the background music a little bit. The end of the song is sung pretty pathetically. Overall, you kind of need to see the cover and title to get a good laugh out of it.

"Chocolate Rain" by Tay Zonday

This was a viral video in 2007 thanks to 4chan for spreading it around as a joke. The song sounds pretty low quality, with a cheesy drum loop and dark tone. It's funny because of the amount of attention it gathered, and for how bland it sounded.

“Where I Come From” by Alan Jackson

This one gets my girlfriend laughing uncontrollably every time. It's like the man is so southern it hurts, and he really likes to focus on "cornbread and chicken" through most of the song.

“I’ve Never Been To Me” by Charlene

This is also one that my girlfriend cracks up from. The title itself starts off sounding like the cheesiest thing ever. "I've never been to me", like that's a thing people say. It's supposed to sound like a relaxing song of regret that a woman has for her whorish lifestyle. There are some really unintentionally funny verses like "I've been undressed by kings, and I've seen some things that a woman ain't supposed to see". But sung in a sad way. But this strange verse here takes the cake.

"Hey, you know what paradise is?

It's a lie.

A fantasy we create about people and places as we'd like them to be.

But you know what truth is? It's that little baby you're holding, and it's that man you fought with this morning.

The same one you're going to make love with tonight.

That's truth, that's love.

It's not just those lyrics, but the way she says it.

Hulk Hogan - Hulkster in Heaven

We live in a strange world where we have a sad song about a wrestler's super fan. Looking further into it on wikipedia, it's actually sort of a sad story. It was made in honor of a make-a-wish kid with a ringside seat that died before the match began. But that doesn't make the lyrics for this any less unintentionally cheesy.

Which song did you find to be the funniest?
