A Selected Few Child Prodigies
I've always had a keen interest in keeping up to date with amazing child stars. I've always been amazed by the talent that seems to be way beyond their years. These children possess acting, dancing, singing and musical abilities that many adults wish they had. This hub explores the talents of a few of my favorites. First up... (Drum roll please)... Jamia Simone Nash!
Jamia singing on The Young and the Restless
Jamia, now 13 years of age was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia on August 21, 1996. She is of African-American and Trinidadian descent. This amazing singer and actress is most noted for her voice role as Uniqua, the pink character on the Nick Jr. series "The Backyardigans".
In addition to her role in the Backyardigans, Jamia has been on American sitcoms such as Half & Half, My Wife and Kids, and 7th Heaven. She was also featured on the Teen Nick series Romeo and played supporting roles in the movies Life is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story and August Rush.
At the age of 2, Jamia began singing and in 2002, this confident little one stepped onto the stage under the eyes of the nation at the Apollo and performed Alicia Keys' "Fallin" . The following year, at the Essence Awards, Jamia sang Michael "Jackson's Who's Lovin' You"
Jamia's acting and singing skills have only strengthened over the years. Currently, Jamia plays the role of Ana Hamilton on the Soap The Young and the Restless.
This cheeky little actress has so much talent yet she has played so few roles. Born in 1987 in Atlanta, Georgia, this fabulous young star played her first role in the movie "I'll do Anything" (2004) as Jeannie Hobbs. Ms. Wright made that movie. Without her, that movie would not have been the same (no offense to the other actors and actresses).
Whittni played the role of the sassy child actress who was looking for a break in her movie, just as her actor father was. Throughout the movie, she showcased her remarkable acting skills. I tell you, she is simply amazing. I wish she had been casted in more movies, more roles and I wish there was more I can tell you about her.
Declan "Tell me Why"
Declan's First Album
One day while surfing YouTube I happened to stumble upon this passionate singer, Declan Galbraith. The first video I looked at was a music video of this cute little boy singing "Tell Me Why."
Declan was born in Hoo St. Werburgh, Kent, England on December 9th, 1991. At the age of 8, he released his first self-titled album "Tell Me Why". Children were taken from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland to sing this moving song with our friend Declan. The children made up the largest choir in history and competed for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Funds from the record-breaking attempt went to a charity cause for children's cancer. Declan continues to sing today and currently has 3 albums and 3 singles.
Born in 1995 in Newry, Maine, This cutie has been called "Mini-Mozart". He learned to play classical piano just by watching his father's fingers. Call me easily impressed but I find that to be quite an amazing feat. Playing classical music is not easy to play. Believe me.
Many may know this adorable bundle of joy for his role as Franklin on the American sitcom "My Wife and Kids". Franklin was a genius, a prodigy, just like Noah himself. Until recently, I thought that Noah was just an actor but I didn't know that he was a musician. The video on the right tells it all.
Connie's Britain's Got Talent Audition
6-year-old Connie Talbot made her debut on the reality TV show "Britain's Got Talent". She brought tears to the eyes of many and even wowed Simon Cowell. Connie was born in 2000 in West Midlands, England. She states in several interviews that she began singing at the age of one.
This child has perfect pitch. I didn't even know that perfect pitch was possible. Adults struggle with perfect pitch but when Connie stepped onto the stage, this small child showed confidence and absolutely no struggle in maintaining the key. Did I mention that she sang a capella (without music)? See for yourself in the video.
Currently, Connie has 3 albums and 2 singles. Her first album "Over the Rainbow" sold over 250,000 copies world wide. Connie has been touring the world and performing on several television shows including Ellen and the Good Morning Show (in the US). She continues to sing today and says she wants to be a singer and a doctor.
I wish I had the time to talk about more child prodigies but I know eventually I will lose my readers' interest. To end this Hub I must mention one more amazing child star. Most of you will know her. Has anyone ever watched "The Cosby Show"?
Well, in the defense of the others actors and actresses, there were many child stars to cross the cameras on the Cosby Show set, Keisha Knight-Pulliam (Rudy Huxtable) being one of them. However, the adorable, talented, saucy child star I'm speaking of is Raven-Symone.
Raven has always had a delightful stage presence, on and off stage. She carried her own stage around with her. Not only did this child have confidence but she had the gift behind it. I'm convinced that this beauty was born to act. In addition to acting, Raven is also a singer. Not only is she a singer and an actor but she dedicates her time to supporting charities such as the Make a Wish Foundation.
Many call Raven (now age 24) the next Oprah Winfrey. I think it's possible. I really do. Raven is one of those who have continued to be a good role model over the years. You never really hear any bad gossip about Raven. We've never heard of drug charges or other such scandals.
Recently, there has been a rumor going around that Raven was pregnant and gave birth to a baby. There are even photos of this alleged infant circulating. However, I would like to say that the rumors are NOT true. Raven is still out there maintaining her honorable image.
In closing, I could have chosen so many videos to feature in this section of the Hub. There were so, so many choices. My head was spinning trying to select the perfect clip. I hope the clip I've chosen below displays young Raven's personality and talent effectively.
I hope you enjoyed these young ones as I did. Thanks for reading.
