What Will the Tribute to Haruka Nakagawa Be In This Article?

Haruka Nakagawa, the Japanese idol singer that transferred over to the group JKT48 in the summer of 2012 had been named as the captain of JKT48’s Team T. However, her career with the group has come to a close. But before we get into that part of her career, it is necessary to focus on the importance of Nakagawa’s selection as the captain of Team T. Why is Nakagawa’s promotion to team captain important? What is presented is a tribute to the idol singer known as Harugon. This tribute is going to cover her promotion to captain of Team T as well as her eventual graduation from JKT48.

Author's note: as of June 2019, this article will now also cover her entire career with AKB48 and JKT48.

A Brief Look at the Career of Haruka Nakagawa Until Captaincy

From her selection to AKB48 in December 2006 following an audition, she would spend five years as a member of that famous girl group. She would then be transferred to JKT48 along with Aki Takajo in August 2012. The two singers would even appear in a commercial for the flavored drink Pocari Sweat. All of this happened when Nakagawa was just 20 years old. And then on February 16, 2014, the first General Election was held for JKT48 in which Nakagawa finished in 3rd place getting 13,276 votes. Nakagawa would do even better for the 2nd General Election which was held on February 28, 2015. She finished at #2 getting 21,882 votes. Just like the AKB48 Senbatsu Elections, these elections are held to determine which members will sing the singles that the group releases. For Nakagawa to be named as a team captain at the young age of 23, this is significant because she was just one step below General Manager! Who is Haruka Nakagawa?

When Did the News of Nakagawa's Promotion Come About?

The news of Nakagawa’s promotion to team captain came just after SKE48’s Rena Matsui announced her intention to graduate. It was on June 13, 2015 that JKT48 held a concert called “JKT48 LIVE in Concert ADA Banyak Rasa, Pilih Suka Rasa Apa”. This concert was at Britama Arena Sport Mall in the city of Jakarta.

Nakagawa described herself as being powerless but that she would unite with all the members of Team T so that it would be a good team. Nakagawa also said that she would work harder to become stronger than Team J and Team K3. Shania Junianatha would be the captain for Team J while Devi Kinal Putri would be the captain of Team K3. In addition to these changes, Melody Nurramdhani Laksani had been chosen as JKT48’s Theater Manager at the time. She is the first manager in the group’s history.

Haruka Nakagawa and Her Work With Watarirouka Hashiritai

Nakagawa was also part of the AKB48 sub-unit called Watarirouka Hashiritai. This sub-unit also had Ayaka Kikuchi and Mayu Watanabe as members. The group released ten singles and was active from 2009-2014. It was in November 2013 that they announced that they would put an end to their activities. On February 9, 2014, the group held its final concert at the venue Zepp Diver City in Tokyo.

Haruka Nakagawa and Her Plans to Graduate

On February 27, 2016, Nakagawa announced that she wanted to graduate from this group. This announcement was made during the event called JKT48 Set list Best 30 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia. After 3.5 years of living away from Japan and experiencing a culture different from her own, Nakagawa, then 24, is ready to take the next step in her career. She said that while she was active in Indonesia, she developed the interest in experiencing lots of things in different countries. Nakagawa also has the desire to learn more about the world. Nakagawa’s graduation was expected to be in December 2016. Fans got told of the news about a very popular member and the other JKT48 members were apparently crying. When a member from an idol group graduates, parting is never easy. But for Nakagawa, it has been a successful career so far. Nakagawa mentioned that she would continue being a member of JKT48 through 2016 and she would work hard to make the dreams of JKT48 come true. I hope you have enjoyed this tribute to a singer that most people in Western nations know little about.
