Rena Matsui was one of the most popular Japanese idol singers

Here is look at Rena Matsui (ex SKE48, ex-Nogizaka46) in photos. Rena Matsui was a member of the girl group SKE48 that is from Nagoya, Japan. Matsui who is from Aichi announced through Twitter that she would not be in attendance at the AKB48 General Senbatsu Election which took place last year on June 6, 2015 at the Fukuoka Yafuoku Dome. This was the 7thyear that AKB48 held this election.

If there is anything else that is remarkable about the career if Rena Matsui, it is that she finished the 6th Senbatsu (AKB48) Election ranked as the 5th most popular member of these idol groups. Congratulations to Rena Matsui!!

A Brief History of the AKB48 General Elections and notable graduations

The first such Senbatsu Election was in 2009. This is an election that determines which members will sing in the group’s singles. The member that receives the most number of votes from the fans will be named as the group’s center for the single that follows the election. It is now more than one year ago that former member Yuko Oshima graduated from AKB48 and then went on to release a photo book. The most high profile member to announce her graduation is Minami Takahashi. Takahashi, 24, will graduate from AKB48 in March 2016 and she was the first member of the group when it was formed back in 2005 so she is the only original member remaining from that time period. A few other notable events worthy of mention in the history of AKB48 is that first of all, the group released their 36th single called Labrador Retriever on May 21, 2014. They would go on to release the singles Kokoro no Placard (37th), Kibouteki Refrain (38th), and most recently the single called Green Flash. Another significant event that will live on in the memory of AKB48 fans is the departure of Atsuko Maeda. AKB48 still remains Japan’s most popular pop music group. Note: Minami Takahashi has left AKB48 as of March 2016 and the new AKB48 "General Manager" is Yui Yokoyama.

How Popular was Rena Matsui?

The candidacy period started on March 25 at 4PM and it continued through March 29 where it concluded at 10 PM. Matsui said that she will continue to do her very best in order to share her joy with everyone. She encouraged fans to continue to support her. Every year since 2009, Matsui has become more popular with the fans. She was ranked at #29 in 2009. In 2010, she made a significant improvement moving up the rankings to the #11. In 2011 and 2012, Matsui was ranked at #10. She reached the 37 spot in 2013 before being among the top five members in 2014.
