A Voice From the White Horse -- An Interview With Julie Lee
Julie Lee is a survivor from the Cambodian genocide. Around 2 million souls were killed from 1975 until 1979. She says it all in her book, "A voice From the White Horse."
This interview is raw and with not much editing. We had to read her book and study her history. She took the challenge well. Her story is riveting and impressive. In the next months her story will be on the silver screen. She has the drive and the will. Team WORK!
Happy Birthday Tom Welling!
Tell us about the White Horse Spirit..
White Horse Spirit "keep coming into my dream - not to give up" and another thing, I promised my grandfather that I would find my father one day.
My grandfather encouraged us to write a book about family history and look for my father no matter what.
My two uncles had died in a refugee camp; my father is the only one missing. My uncles died by torture at the hands of the Khmer Rouge soldiers. And that rat called Pol Pot!
And their names? I guess they were teenagers?
Chaundara and Sanak. They were in their 30's and they were regular soldiers working for the Cambodian Government. My father was commander #3
Do you believe in coincidences? Like your mom meeting your step dad for a reason
Like meeting Tony and myself
My stepfather got hold of my mother through a newspaper add for couples in Philippines. My mother escaped from a rice field and went to the Philippines. That was in the early 80's.
Yes I'd love to meet you and Tony... and do a YouTube CLIP together; that would be great!
Who taught you some great kung fu moves?
I took Kung Fu classes when I was around 14 years old. Then at the age 16 I quit because I went for my black belt. (smiles)
You want to make a movie about your ordeal. Are you a positive person that can make this happen? Who are the people behind the scenes.
Yes I do, and yes I'm a very positive person. Because I always had negative people around me back in the past. Now I have to change that negative to positive. Yes I believe a voice from the white horse can make it to the Oscar's Awards because everybody around the world needs to know a true story from the inside out; about Pol Pot and the real Khmer Rouge.
Do you think there is a hidden reason for your survival among 2 millions of souls that never made it?
Yes, those people never made it because they were scared and they gave up easily.
My grandfather told everyone in the camp, "if we still stay in the camp we all gonna die. We must escape the refugee camp."
He saved your life even though father and mother were gone. Is he still alive?
No my grandfather died on 3/7/2003. I miss him so much. He was the best grandfather I'd ever had. He was like my father. His teachings are well explained in my book.
I know. What else can you add to this wonderful interview?
Let's talk about my father.
Well, I forgot about him...
He may be still alive somewhere. if he died, at least I want to have his dead body or ashes. My father was a good man. He'd liked to help out the poor people and he wanted to raise money to help kids and their school education.
That was awesome! No wonder you have that strength!
Thank you! So, I wanted to be like my father. I remember my grandfather saying that my father wanted to be an author and write about Cambodian history and our own family. My father didn't come back since Pol Pot took him away with my two uncles.
So your father's legacy is on you and your actions...
He is alive in your thoughts, can you feel it?
My father was a fighter like Jet Li or Jackie Chan. He was trained to fight Kung Fu and martial arts. He became a high commander. Father was adopted by Thailand King and went to school to read and write. Something denied to the meek and poor.
What a wonderful story that needs to be in the movies. Where can we get a copy of your book?
www.julieleewhitehorse.com and get directly from me in my website contact.
Who do you think... or better said, what actors do you really admire?
Good question Joseph! I love Angelina Jolie and her international relief support for refugees. I love Tom Welling and his Superman roles. Jackie Chan is another one that deserves so many thanks from me. He is one of my idols. Chris Pine from Star Trek is one of the awesome actors I truly admire. The list is long and would love to have them in my movie!
Amazing and legendary. YOU are a true survivor!
Thank you <3
Thanks to YOU!
A tribute to Kung Fu Fighting! WHOA!!
Here is a teaser with her Kung Fu Moves... and Tony Taylor talking about her book.
Julie Lee has been interested in contacting Angelina, who a week ago told the world that she was ready to direct. If Angelina is reading this interview, PLEASE make sure to contact Julie; maybe she can start directing "A Voice From The White Horse."
