A fairy tale story like no other
"Shrek" is perhaps one of the funniest films of all time. The film is essentialty a spoof of modern fairy tales like Cinderella and Snow White, and it throws in an unlikely hero in it, an Ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers) with a donkey (Eddie Murphy) as a sidekick. The story starts out about Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), from the land of Far Far Away, being locked away in a tower waiting for prince charming to rescue her. Meanwhile, Prince Farquad (Jon Lithgow)wants to become king, but he has to get married in order to do so. However, when Farquad finds out about Fiona, he hires Shrek and donkey to rescue her for him. Along the way, the film offers tons of laughs, and a solid storyline for everyone to enjoy. I was especially impressed with the high level of animation. At one point, some of the backgrounds seemed almost too real like the mud, beer, and how the forests were animated in general. Overall, "Shrek" is a great family film.
Dreamworks manages to create these surrealistic characters and realistic backgrounds to look beautiful together without looking out of place. However, if it weren't for great acting, then this film would've been a huge waste of time.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Jon Lithgow, and Cameron Diaz are simply hillarious in this film. I can't rememeber when I laughed so hard. In scenes like, when Shrek and Donkey meet for the first time, it just makes the viewer just want to bust a gut laughing. From beggining to end, this film is just too funny. Plus, it tells a great story about how it's whats on the inside that counts.
However, the story is predictable with cliches, but it doesn't ruin the film.
"Shrek" is definitely one of the funniest films I've seen. The animation and voice acting were sweet. Overall, "Shrek" is a great film for the entire family.
