A new Three Stooges movie

The new Three Stooges movie
There is a news report circulating that the cast for the new Three Stooges movie will include Jim Carrey as Curly, Sean Penn as Larry and Benicio del Toro as Moe.
My initial thought on hearing about a new Three Stooges movie was that it was just plain wrong. The Stooges were and still are great! You can not replace Moe, Larry and Curly. Shemp and Curly Joe did a decent job of replacing Curly but it still wasn't the same as Moe, Larry and Curly. I don't even want to discuss Joe.
After giving some thought to a new Stooge movie, I have come to the conclusion that it could be okay IF it is handled properly. That is the new Stooges need to develop their own mannerisms, not trying to copy the originals. An excellent example of how this was done was when Shemp replaced Curly. Shemp did not try to do Curly's nyuk nyuk nyuk or woop woop woop. He replaced it with his own eeebbb eeebbb eeebbb.
The new movie should even change the Stooges names, but keep them similar. The Moe character should keep the Moe characteristics, the Larry character the Larry characteristics and the Curly character the Curly characteristics.
Looking at the new cast, Sean Penn certainly has the Larry nose and is a talented actor. I think he could do a good job doing a Larry type character. Jim Carrey concerns me. On his own he may be able to pull off a Curly type character, however, I am hearing that he is trying to gain 40 pounds. I am concerned that he will try to too closely emulate Curly. I don't know enough about Benicio del Toro to make a comment on his role.
The bottom line is that I will give this new Three Stooges movie a chance, but there is no way they will ever come close to replacing the originals.
