Updated on January 28, 2015

Picture this...

You wake up in the morning, you hear the faint dripping of rain against your roof. You draw back the curtains and all you see is grey skies and rain falling from the heavens. It's quite chilly and there is no sign of the sun showing its face. What is the first thing that you want to do? How about making a nice cup of strong coffee and then climbing right back into bed, switching on the TV and watching your favourite movies the entire day? That sounds like the best way to spend a rainy day...

Movies the best form of entertainment next to reading a good book. and of you do find yourself at home and you want to watch movies the whole day but don't know what to watch. Here is my list of top ten movies to watch.

Braveheart

Written by Randall Wallace and Directed by lead actor Mel Gibson. Who won two Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture. Braveheart also the academy award for Best Cinamtogropy, Best Sound Editing and Best Makeup. In total it was nominated for ten Academy Awards. Upon its release it grossed USD 9,938,276 in the United States and USD 210,409,945 worldwide. It was the thirteenth highest grossing film of 1995.

Based on the poem ''The Actes And Deidis Of The Illustre And Valleyeant Campioun Schir William Wallace'' by Blind Harry. The story portraits the life of Willam Wallace, a scottish soldier who rebels against King Edward I of England and leads Scottish troops in the first war of Scottish independece after his wife is publicly exicuted.

Braveheart is one of those dramatic war movies, which includes a lot of humour and a little bit of romance. Although a lot of historians labelled Braveheart as historically inacurate and in 2009 it was voted as the second most inacurate historical film in The Times, it still remains one of those movies that once you've seen it, you want to watch it again and again. It is one of those movies that you have to watch before you die.

Who can forget the epic battle speech Wallace (Gibson) Delivers before they head into battle... ''Dying in your beds, many years from now... Would you be willing to trade each day from this day to that, for once chance, JUST ONE CHANCE, to come back here and tell our enymies, that they may take our lives, but they will never take our... FREEDOM!'' That is properly one of the best battle speeches ever delivered in a movie.

Braveheart is a must watch movie and starts off our list at number 10...

Which movie has your favorite Final battle speech in it?

The Bucket List

What Happens when you put two Hollywood Legends together on a movie set and say ''Action!''? You get a masterpiece that will be watched over and over again for years to come. The Bucket List is a prime example of this.

Directed by Rob Reiner and Written by Justin Zackham. It was released in 2008 and grossed USD 175 372 502.

Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman star in this Comedy-Drama about two men both diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who decide to complete a list of things they want to do before they die. ''It's a list, of all the things you want to do before you...'' ''Kick the bucket?''

Jack Nicholson plays Edward Cole and Morgan Freeman plays Carter Chambers. Two men who meet for the first time in hospital when they share the same room. They are both only given six months to live and together they decide to go out and do all the things, on a list they made, before they die. While traveling the world and completing the list they discover a lot about themselves and they become really good friends.

This is brilliantly written movie, that proves it is never too late to make new friends. There are very funny scenes in this movie and Nicholson and Freeman together just worked. An exceptionally funny scene was when they went racing around a racetrack.

The Bucket list is a brilliant movie and makes our 'bucket list' at number nine.

#8

James Bond's: Goldeneye

Goldeneye is the seventeenth movie in the James Bond series, and Pierce Brosnan's first appearance as Bond. Goldeneye was also the first Bond movie not be based on one of the novelist and creator of James Bond, Ian Fleming's novels. It was released in 1995 and it grossed an estimate of USD 350,7 Million worldwide and actor Pierce Brosnan was viewed by critics as a modernized Bond and a definite improvement to his predecessor, Timothy Dalton.

The plot revolves around Bond stopping ex-MI6 agent gone rogue Alec Trevelyan who steals a control disk that controls two satellite weapons named Goldeneye, and with it he planned to rob The Bank of England and then destroy all of its financial records with the Goldeneye, clearing him of the theft and bankrupting England.

Goldeneye is a high octane movie with plenty of action, beautiful women (what else would we expect form Bond?) and fast cars. Bond even drives a tank through the streets of Russia. All this while dodging a deadly assassin, who's signature is to squeeze her victims to death after luring them into her bed. No wander her name is Xenia Onnatop... Her eventual death leads to a classic one liner that was 18th on Maxim Magazine of October 2013's list of 100 Killer One-Liners. The scene is Bond and Onnatop fight in a jungle area when Bond shoots down a helicopter that she was dangling from. The result is she is crushed between two trees and Bond with a dry humor says, ''She always did enjoy a good squeeze...''

Goldeneye's cast includes Sean Bean who plays Alec Trevelyan, Izabella Scorupco as Bond's love interest Natalya Simonova, Judy Dench as M and Framke Janssen as Xenia Onnatop.

Goldeneye's theme song was written by Bono and The Edge and performed by Tina Turner.

Goldeneye is definitely one of the best Bond movies ever. And is ranked at number eight on our list.

#7

The Count Of Monte Cristo

This fantastic reinactment of the timeless classical novel 'The Count Of Monte Cristo', written by Alexandre Dumas. Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce and Richard Harris star in this movie about a man who is betrayed by his best friend and sent to a remote prison. Here he meets a priest who becomes he's mentor and friend. Together they plot an escape and alone he plots revenge. He eventually does escape and with treasure that he finds thanks to his friend, he returns to his home where he creates an alias and gets his revenge on all the people who betrayed him.

Directed by Kevin Reynolds and released in 2002 it grossed an estimate of USD 75 395 048 with its worldwide release.

This is a brilaint movie, with brilliant acting and a great cast, that make this movie as good as it is. It has the right blend of Drama, Romance, Comedy and Action. It even includes classic one liners. For Example... When Harris tells Caviezel about the treasure,.. ''I lied.'' Harris said. ''You lied?'' Caviezel asks shocked. ''I'm a priest, not a saint...'' Harris counters and a classic one liner was born.

Although a movie can never live up to a books standard. 'The Count Of Monte Cristo' definatley comes close. That is why it makes our list at number seven

#6

Top Gun

It was the movie of the year in 1986... Who can forget Maverick, Iceman and Goose? That brilliant aerial photography, The Ray-Ban Aviators sunglasses and of course the music... 'Highway to the danger zone', 'Take my breath away' and 'you’ve lost that lovin' feeling'. It was all the extras that made the movie great.

Tom Cruise stars as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in this timeless Action-Romance classic. Written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. Directed by Tony Scott. Co-starring Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan. Top Gun Grossed USD 356 830 601 on its worldwide release and was the highest grossing film of 1986.

Maverick and his partner attend the Navy's fighter weapons school know as 'Top Gun'. There Maverick meets Charlotte 'Charlie' Blackwood and they fall in love later on. While at the school Maverick has to deal with orders and loss.

A brilliant movie that will always remain a timeless classic. Top Gun was nominated for four Academy Awards, six Apex Scroll Awards, one Golden Globe and five Fennecus Awards.

Top Gun makes our list at number six and is another must watch...

Although Fools Rush In wasn't a mayor success or won any awards, it is still a great movie. A beautiful love story that makes you say Awh at the end every time. And there are a lot of funny moments parts in the movie that will make you laugh out loud.

Fools Rush In is a must watch movie and makes our list at number five.

#4

The Karate Kid

Released in 1984 and it grossed an estimate of USD 90 815 558. Directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Robert Mark Kamen. Starring Noriyuki 'Pat' Morita and Ralph Macchio. One of greatest movies ever made, who can forget every teenager of the 1980s favorite movie, The Karate Kid.

Daniel Lerusso and his mother move to Los Angeles where Daniel becomes the victim of a gang of Karate fighters who bully him. Daniel meets Mr. Miyagi a maintenance man who saves him one day from these bullies and eventually agrees to teach him Karate so that he can compete in a tournament to beat his bullies and then get them to leave him alone.

I don't think anyone can forget, ''Wax on, Wax off.'' And the kind Mr. Miyagi who could also kick some serious butt if he needed to. And who tried and failed to catch a fly with chopsticks. ''Man who catch fly with chopsticks, can do accomplish anything.''

There is three movies in the Karate Kid series and a fourth that only stars Mr. Miyagi and a young Hilary Swank, named The Next Karate Kid. I believe the first one is the best and that is why it makes our list at number four.

Road House

An Amazing actor that was taken from us too soon, he played in some of the best movies ever made. He was extremely talented in many aspects, one of them being he was a great actor. The one and only Patrick Swayze...

Patrick Swayze stars in this action packed movie about a bouncer that is hired to clean up a bar where, ''they sweep up the eyeballs after closing.'' in a small town called Jasper. Sam Elliot and Kelly Lynch co star with Swayze in this movie.

Written by David Lee Henry and Hilary Henkin and Directed by Rowdy Herrington. Road House made its Debut in 1989 and Grossed USD 30 050 028.

Swayze plays James Dalton, a bouncer who isn’t afraid of anyone and who never loses a fight. Swayze and Elliot both deliver a brilliant performance of two bouncers with a never say die attitude and who always has a comeback. Road house also made Maxim Magazine's list of 100 killer one liners. At number 88 when Dalton goes to the hospital and the doctor asks if he always carries his medical records around and he says, ''Saves time.''

The Jeff Healey band also appeared in the movie and the played most of the songs for the soundtrack. Swayze also wrote one song and sang two for the movie.

Road House may not have won any awards, but it is hands down one of the best movies of the eighties and one of the best movies of our time. And it takes its rightful place on our list at number three.

#2

Lethal Weapon

Is it even possible to forget Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs? (Hint: Answer is no.) How about ''I'm getting to old for this sh!$#t.'' or ''No Guns, no Jujitsu, just get him down.''? Lethal Weapon one of the best movies of 1987.

After a suicidal narcotics cop gets reassigned to homicide he is partnered with a much older cop who isn't too happy about having to deal with an unstable partner. After a series of events they become friend and together they try to solve a murder that they find out is related to drugs. This Action packed blockbuster will have you at the edge of your seat from the begging to the end.

Gibson and Glover together are a great combination and they make thins movie a masterpiece. There are some very funny scenes in this movie and the action is non-stop. There are four movies in the Lethal Weapon series, but I think the first still remains the best. That is why it makes our list at number two.

Together with his Merry Men, Robin and his friend Azeem fight back against the Sheriff to get their land back.

Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves comes in at number one because it is such a brilliant movie. It is a love story combined with action and Drama. Bryan Addams's song 'Everything I do I Do It For You' also had a mayor impact on the movie. Alan Rickman plays the role of the opposing Sheriff so well and he is a believable bad guy. A very funny part in the movie is when Rickman threatens to cut Robin's heart out with a spoon. When asked later why he would use a spoon, he replied, ''Because it's dull, it will hurt more you tw!#t!''

The entire cast was well chosen, the scenery where the movie was shot is amazing and the soundtrack is very well chosen. Although a lot of critics disliked the movie, it is till a classic and one of the most beautiful love stories ever made. And this is why It makes our list right in first place.
