The Importance & Versatility of AKB48 is Shown in This Story

The famous girl group AKB48 was chosen to sing the theme song for the next NHK morning drama called Asa ga Kita. This announcement was made public at the NHK Broadcasting Center on August 18, 2015. The drama is a tribute to a woman named Asako Hirooka who lived from the end of the Edo Period all the way through the Meiji Period. This will the first morning drama (Asadora) that begins at the end of the Edo Period. Starring in this drama is actress Aoi Miyazaki who will play the role of Asa’s older sister Hatsu. Asa will be played by actress Haru. You may be wondering why I am writing about this particular story. AKB48 is known for more than just being a pop idol super group. They are now singing theme songs for dramas and this will only expand their influence and popularity. This is the first major press conference without Rina Kawaei.

What is the Name of the Theme Song?

The theme song is called "365 Nichi no Kamihikouki" (365 days of paper airplanes). It is described as a medium tempo song that is gentle and features the acoustic guitar. The singer that has been chosen as center for this song is NMB48’s Sayaka Yamamoto. The other members that were selected to sing this song are:

Rie Kitahara

Haruna Kojima

Haruka Kodama

Rino Sashihara of HKT48

Haruka Shimazaki

Jurina Matsui

Mayu Watanabe

Yui Yokoyama

Miyuki Watanabe

Another Reason Why This Story is So Important: Because It Was the First Major Press Conference Held Without Singer Rina Kawaei

Kawaei graduated from AKB48 on August 4, 2015. I’m sure she would be really happy for AKB48 knowing that they have been chosen to sing a theme song for a morning drama. Note: it is now 2020 and this story is probably old news but in the opinion of this author it deserves coverage because of the importance of AKB48.

Members of AKB48 offer their perspective on being chosen to sing a theme song for a morning drama

Five of these members were chosen as the group’s representatives and they attended the press conference that day. Watanabe said that she was very happy and that singing a theme song for a morning drama is like a dream. Takahashi said that Yasushi Akimoto said that paper airplanes can fly freely and straight when a person throws them without using too much power. She also said that AKB48 will sing this song hoping that honest feelings will result from it. These are great values for these members to have. Honest, open communication is what will lead to a very harmonious situation. Kashiwagi offered her perspective on the morning drama saying that when she was in elementary school, they would watch re-runs of these morning dramas during lunch time and the whole school would sing the theme song. She said that she hopes that this song will be a song that everyone loves. Meanwhile, Yokoyama made the reporters laugh when she mentioned that she will try her best so that she can become a morning drama heroine sometime in the future.

The beautiful Sayaka Yamamoto of NMB48

Sayaka Yamamoto possesses talent and beauty at the same time! She may be the most beautiful member of AKB48 and its other groups!

Reasons why Yamamoto deserved to be chosen as a center for a song

This marks that first time that Yamamoto has become the center for a song. She is so honored and she always wanted to become a center. Yamamoto said that now that this has happened she finds it hard to believe. Watanabe offered her thoughts on Yamamoto’s singing voice. She said that when Yamamoto sings, she is really good at it. When someone hears her voice for the first time, they will not notice that it is AKB48. She also added that Yamamoto’s voice is above the level of AKB48. Then Takahashi told her to not say such misleading things and that all the members are trying their best. Takahashi also offered her support to Yamamoto telling her that it is difficult for someone to show their individuality in AKB48. Now that Yamamoto has become center, she has to graduate from a karineko (borrowed cat) and show her capabilities. We can say that this marks Yamamoto’s rise to the top of a group even if it is just for one song. With her hard work, she deserves to have been chosen as center. She can play the guitar, she can sing, dance, and entertain fans like me!

The first airing of the drama Asa ga Kita, Release of the Song

The first airing of Asa ga Kita was scheduled to be on September 28, 2015. However the release date for 365 Nichi no Kamihikouki had not been announced yet when I first wrote about this story. The song is a coupling song from AKB48’s 42nd single called Kuchibiru ni Be my Baby.

What is this song about?

The song is about someone that has the desire to do what she wants. Life is described as being like a paper airplane where you can fly with confidence in your spirit even if you don’t know how to do it. You can move through your life with love and people will notice this and look up to you as a role model for the world.
