About Last Night-Mr. Steve Harvey and Miss Universe Pageant
Miss Universe 2015?
Scores of people including most television and entertainment fans sat glued to the screen on December 20th, 2015, wondering , speculating and guessing who would be crowned Miss Universe 2015. The time finally arrived and Mr. Steve Harvey accidently crowned Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arevalo, the winner of the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant and the crowd began cheering and she was given some nice flowers. As seconds grew into a minute and Miss Columbia looked upon screen to receive her cue to celebrate, the time seem to keep right on going. Mr. Steve Harvey at that moment realized that he had made a mistake and crowned the wrong Miss Universe. At this point, many people would say, “Can you imagine how that moment felt?” The answer would be no because there are not many people who can host huge shows that air on television in front of millions of people. When Mr. Harvey realized his mistake, Miss Columbia was already waving to a cheering crowd. I can only imagine what was going through Mr. Harvey’s head as he walked back on stage and said, “Listen folks let me take charge of this.” “This is exactly what is on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. Horrible mistake but the right thing-I can show it to you, the ‘first runner up Miss Columbia.’ It is my mistake. Still a great night.” At this point Miss Philippines stood by in utter shock and I am sure she thought this was all a dream as she approached Miss Columbia to receive her honor. Everyone remembers Paula Vega who was the last year winner, politely took the crown off of Miss Columbia’s head and retrieved the flowers. It was now Miss Philippines time to shine and she is the official Miss Universe 2015.
I have followed and watched Mr. Steve Harvey as an entertainer for many years and he too is one of the personalities that I love. As I began to understand his real character, Mr. Harvey wrote on his twitter page,”I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Columbia and Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible. Secondly, I‘d like to apologize to the viewers that I disappointed as well. Again, it was an honest mistake.”
There are many lessons that we can learn from this story. First, we are all human and will make mistakes. Secondly, the Bible says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). Third, “And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Everything on earth is temporary; nothing in life is permanent where it can’t be taken away. When a mistake is made we should own up to the mistake and apologize. Finally, for all the viewers, learn to forgive and move on. Mr. Steve Harvey: Keep your head up!
