Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer

The Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer movie brings to life the popular novel of the same name. In this world, Abraham Lincoln is a Vampire Slayer. Sure, he is still the great man who, as the 16th President, led America through one of its most difficult periods. However, Honest Abe also had a secret little side hobby: Vampire Hunting. Intrigued? Read on, because we’ll be discussing the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter movie, novel and news, as well as giving an ALVH review of both the movie and novel, and how they compare. The ALVH release date is on June 22, 2012 in both 2D and 3D. The ALVH movie trailers can be found by scrolling down the page.

Seth Grahame-Smith wrote the original ALVH novel, presenting it as a biography that called upon secret diaries Lincoln kept about his vampire killing exploits. The novel the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer movie was based on was released on March 2, 2010, following on from his Pride and Prejudice and Zombies novel from 2009.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter the Novel

Seth Grahame-Smith released the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter novel on March 2, 2010, published by Grand Central Publishing. ALVH debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at #4, holding it's place for several weeks. It is written like a biography of the legendary president, with excerpts from a fake vampire hunting journal he kept.

Seth Grahame-Smith has a track record of interesting and gimmicky literary works. Some of his earlier work included The Spider-Man Handbook: The Ultimate Training Manual and How to Survive a Horror Movie: All the Skills to Dodge the Kills. His breakthrough came with
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on the classic novel but spliced with a zombie apocalypse.

ALVH Novel v Movie

Because Seth Grahame-Smith was hired to adapt his novel to the screen, we can be sure of a relatively loyal retelling. However, there are some differences to allow for the different story telling mediums. One key difference between the ALVH novel and movie is the addition of a key villain, Adam. A mainstream film such as this usually needs a central villain to allow an adversarial story arch. This is not as important in a novel, particularly one like ALVH, which is treated as a biography.

ALVH Movie Info

In March 2010 it was announced that a movie of the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter novel would be made. Tim Burton and director Timur Bekmambetov purchased the rights, with 20th Century Fox Film Corporation outbidding other studios to produce the film in 2D and 3D, with a budget of US$69 million. ALVH was originally scheduled for release on October 28, 2011 but was delayed seven months until June 22, 2012.

The movie was filmed in Louisiana and has an R rating.

As with the book, the story will be told on the backdrop of the civil war. The imagery looks to be similar to that of another vampire hunter, Van Hesling in that it is very dark and rich.

The action is sure to be extremely stylish, with generous use of slow motion shots. From the trailer we can see similarities with the action in Timur Bekmambetov's earlier film, Wanted (with James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman).
