I like listening to guitar players and like a good rock solo. But sometimes I want to relax and enjoy some acoustic guitar. There are many great solo acoustic guitar players. This list will only cover a few great players that I think you should know.

Kotaro Oshio

Kotaro Oshio is an acoustic guitar player born in Osaka, Japan who is known for his unique style of playing that includes tapping, open tunings and a "nail attack" where he strikes the strings with his nails for a percussion sound. He released his first independent album in 1999 and has release over 10 more albums since.

Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy Emmanuel is an Australian fingerstyle acoustic guitar player. His style is influenced by Chet Atkins' style of playing using a technique called Travis Picking. Travis Picking, named after Myrle Travis who referred to his style as "thumb picking", is a style of playing with the thumb playing a bass pattern while the other fingers play a syncopated rhythm.

He's been named "Best Acoustic Guitarist" in the Guitar Player Magazine reader's poll twice and was recently appointed a member of the Order of Australia.

Michael Hedges - Aerial Boundaries

Michael Hedges

Michael Hedges is considered one of the the most influential solo acoustic guitar players of all time. He is a classically trained musician and adds unique techniques including slap harmonics, right hand hammer-ons, left hand hammer-ons and pull offs and using the guitar body as a drum. He has also played unusual instruments such as a harp guitar.

Leo Kottke

Leo Kottke mixes elements of blues, jazz, folk and syncopated, polyphonic melodies for his unique sound on his acoustic guitar. Though he is known for playing instrumental music he occasionally sings. He has described his own singing as "geese farts on a muggy day."

Laurence Juber

Laurence Juber is best known as the lead guitarist with Wings with Paul McCartney. During his time with the band he won a Grammy award for Best Rock Instrumental for Rockestra on the album Back to the Egg. He has since had a long solo acoustic guitar career.

Andy McKee

Andy McKee is an acoustic guitar player from Topeka, Kansas. He gained a following when one of his videos became a Featured Video on YouTube. His influences range from metal to jazz. At the age of 16 his cousin took him to see Preston Reed perform live at a clinic. He then started to shift towards acoustic guitar players such as Michael Hedges, Billy McLaughlin and Don Ross.

Oh, by the way, I really enjoyed all of the videos. I especially enjoyed Kotaro. He looks like he doesn't have a care in the world. His style is so fresh and clean. I have never heard him before now, so it was a real treat.

I love the sound of acoustic guitar. When you speak about fingering, they all have different styles. The other day, I saw an acoustic player who managed to play various notes using the same finger pattern up and down the neck of the guitar. I thought that was interesting. Nice hub. And, thank you for the videos. I'll be watching them all in a moment.

McKee has long been one of my favorites. I also like Emmanuel. All the others are new to me. Now, I feel an urge to go play. :)

I absolutely love Andy McKee's playing... so soulful even though it's just guitar music.
