Agneepath- A Must Watch

Updated on January 31, 2012

After a long time Indian cinema has delivered a truly outstanding classic. A sublime mixture of drama, emotions and action, the movie comes out strong and leaves a thorough impact on the viewer.

In general, one can only speak of positives which the film brings.

As classy as the original Amitabh Bacchan starrer flick, the plot is again a masterpiece. The gruesome murder of an honest, hard-working, principled father in front of his son; the effect of the father’s death on the mind of the child; the rise of the child into an adult into power; the double-crossing, the struggles and politics for power; all these events along with a brilliant direction transform into a mesmerizing array of drama the film presents.

A true master-class show of craft, Hrithik shows effortless show of various emotions and skills as an actor. The scenes where he remembers his father, he hugs his sister after years of separation, he double crosses his mentor to surpass him in power and many more of his acting gives goose bumps to the viewer.

Hrithik show “Pacino- Brando” class of acting in this movie. A child who saw his father murdered in front of his eyes vows revenge and the only goal in his life is to get his father’s region “MANDWA” whom he won by respect, back to whom it belongs.

A very skilled, effortless show of craft and class by Hrithik; hats off!!

Rishi Kapoor comes in as a veteran mafia chieftain and does remarkable justice to his negative portrayal. He becomes the mentor to Hrithik in his childhood and brings to him the world of power, politics and crime. His acting adds to the shine of the movie and is a pleasure to watch him as a villain. The way he indulges himself in selling of girls is worthy of mention. He carries the stature all throughout the life of his role and adds to the accolades of the film.

There is no doubt that Dutt’s gruesome, dark, evil, psychotic character comes out best with the look given to him.

Completely bald, no eyebrows, gothic tattoos, a one black robe, all that on the huge hulk body of Sanjay Dutt make him the ultimate super evil villain “Kancha Cheena”, who murdered his father. The look alone gives you a chill through your spine when you first look at it.

The only flaw in the film is the low emphasis on Dutt’s acting. He could have done more. With such devastating looks he could have made a deeper impact than rest of the crew. His dialogues at times are monotonous and pointless. He has misused his evil laughter way too much. All I can say is that, we expected more of him after such a show of class by the rest of the crew

Considering all the fact, the film is a strongly recommended must watch from my side. A gem of a movie indeed. Thumbs up! To Karan Malhotra for direction.
