Anxiously Awaiting Alice in Wonderland 2

I was very excited to read that filming is finally starting (in August 2014) on the anxiously awaited sequel to Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" officially titled "Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass." Of course for fans of the original 2016 is still a long ways away.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite movies in recent years (prior to Disney's Maleficent).

Alice was an enchanting update on the old Lewis Carroll story, a 3-D combination of live action characters with CGI generated ones.

Set in Underland, the proper name for Wonderland, the movie follows Alice Kingsleigh's (Mia Wasikowska) visit to this visually stunning, fantastical world, filled with unusual and quirky characters.

What's Know about Alice 2 So Far

Disney's official blog is describing Alice 2: Through the Looking Glass as an all-new tale that travels back to Underland—and back in Time.In Through the Looking Glass Alice returns to Underland mission to help the Mad Hatter.

By the new title, it probably isn't too much of a stretch to figure Alice will be going back to Underland through a looking glass instead of down the rabbit hole. Based on photos published in the UK's Mail Online (links below) we can see that Alice is sporting riding attire in jodhpurs and boots and in another scene looks to be a naval officer in at least part of the movie.

Rhys Ifans is being introduced as a new character, Zanik Hightopp, who is none other the the Mad Hatter’s father. With the Hatter's father now in the cast at least part of the storyline will be in the Mad Hatter's past.

Another new comer is Sacha Baron Cohen who playing a character known as “Time” who is a new villain in the film.

Screenrant writer Sandy Schafer speculates that the Through the Looking Glass storyline involves a time-line disruption that Alice and the Hatter must repair. How else will they be able to explain a grown up Alice in the Mad Hatter's past, when she met him first as a child.

Building on the Success of Alice in Wonderland 2010

Even though the first Alice in Wonderland wasn't a hit with the critics, the movie was a hit with the fans, and a huge financial success for Disney.

Alice in Wonderland 2010 made more than $1 billion world wide. Understandably, Disney is hoping to recapture some of that financial success by bringing back this quirky cast of characters led by Johnny Depp's delightfully crazy Mad Hatter.

The first Alice won many awards for the film, including two Academy Awards (Oscars®) one for Best Art Direction and one for Colleen Atwood for Best Costume Design.

In this companion book to Disney's movie version, readers get to read the story line of the movie. We have a copy that I read to the kids when it came out.

This version can be read on various versions of the Kindle. It is still available as a hardcover still from 3rd parties.
