Mion Mukaichi the Next Rising Star of Girl Group AKB48

Famous Japanese girl group AKB48 always does the great thing of being able to attract girls to become great members. The next great member and rising star of this group is Mion Mukaichi. With the sudden retirement of one of AKB48's darlings Mayu Watanabe, the group could use some positive news and encouragement. This pop music singer born January 29, 1998 is from Saitama, Japan and she has risen to a level that is even higher than that of being named as a “center” for an AKB48 song. But before we get to that part, I'm sure all of you want to know who Mion Mukaichi is and what she has done in her career with AKB48.

Mion Mukaichi's Early Career (2013-2014)

Mukaichi joined AKB48 as a member of the 15th generation on January 19, 2013 just days before her 15th birthday and you're probably thinking “hey that's a really young age to make your debut” and it is a really young age but that's the typical starting point in age for these girls. A few months later on April 30th of that year, she made her theater debut as a back-dancer. It would be on February 24, 2014 during a major AKB48 group shuffle that she would be transferred to Team 4.

Note: for those of you that are just getting to know about this group, AKB48 typically has different “teams” of members. Each of these teams also has a team captain.

A Brief Look at Mion Mukaichi's Acting Roles

Mukaichi has also worked as a film actress. For instance, from January 19th through March 30, 2015, she was cast as a member on the 4th season of the AKB48 drama series called Majisuka Gakuen 4. She would star again on the 5th season of that drama Majisuka Gakuen 5 from August 25th through October 27, 2015. However, it would be in 2017 that she would get her biggest acting break yet. Between January 22nd and July 2nd 2017, she starred in an AKB48 drama called Tofu Pro Wrestling and this drama featured all of the members of the various Japanese 48 groups that were in existence at that time. This means that this drama had members from AKB48 as well as SKE48, NMB48, HKT48 and NGT48.

Mion Mukaichi Makes History Three Times In a Three Year Period From 2015 Through 2017

It would be on March 26, 2015 that Mukaichi would change teams again due to being transferred. Following the AKB48 Spring Concert that year, she would be transferred this time to Team K. It would be on June 6, 2015 that Mukaichi would be ranked at #44 during the 7th AKB48 Senbatsu or General Election. But in doing this, she actually made history by becoming the first member of her generation to rank in that election. On June 6, 2016, Mukaichi would be named as “center” for AKB48's 44th single called Tsubasa wa Iranai. On June 18th of that year, she would really make headlines during the AKB48 8th General Election, ranking at #13 thus putting her among the top 16 most popular girls in AKB48 that year. If you really rise up in the rankings like that in just one year, you must be doing something right and getting good attention from the fans. On January 17, 2017, Mukaichi made history once again by holding her first solo concert even before she turned 19 years old! Within a three year span, Mukaichi would become the first member of her generation to rank in an AKB48 General Election, be named as “center” for a single, and hold a solo concert all before turning 20!

An Agency Change for Mukaichi and Being Named as Center Again

On September 5, 2017, Mukaichi's agency changed to Mama & Son which is a daughter company of the agency called Production Ogi. On December 8, 2017 during the event called the AKB48 12th Anniversary Shuffle, Mukaichi was moved to Team A. On March 10. 2018, Mukaichi would do very well on a certain test called the AKB48 Center Examination. She won first place in this test and this meant that this was because she demonstrated that she had the most knowledge about all the 48 groups among all of the members. On May 30, 2018, she was then chosen as a center for the song called Kimi wa Boku no Kaze which is a coupling song for AKB48's single called Teacher, Teacher.

Mion Mukaichi's Biggest Career Success So Far

And on December 30, 2018, member Yui Yokoyama designated that Mukaichi would be named as the General Manger of AKB48 and all of its other associated groups in the future. That future date where she was able to ascend to that position was on April 1, 2019. As of February 2020, Mion Mukaichi has also made an appearance at the Japan Expo 2020 in Thailand.
