All Ireland Pipe Band Championships 2013
At the conclusion of the competition all the pipe bands gathered together to form a massed band.
Senior drum major Brian Wilson led the massed band.
The massed band played Scotland the Brave, Battles Ore and Highland Laddie.
Competition for the pipe bands commenced with Grade 4B starting with Topp Star of The North. Other bands included Derryclayin, McDonald Memorial, Gorey, Raphoe, Ballydonaghy, Killen and District. A total of 19 bands was entered into this grade.
Grade 4A started with Marlacoo and District. McNeillstown, the Australian band Scotch College Pipes and Drums, Cullybackey. 13 entries in this section.
Grade 3B kicked off at 2pm with Upper Crossgare, Syerla and District, Tullylagan, Matt Boyd Memorial. 10 entries.
Grade 3A Ballybriest, Gransham, Gortaclare, St Laurence O'Toole. 9 bands.
Grade 2 had 8 entries including Manorcunningham, Cullen and Police Service of Northern Ireland.
The top grade Grade 1 commenced at 4.30 with Cullybackey, Seven Towers, St Laurence O'Toole, Ravara and finished with the popular Field Marshall Montgomery. Bands in this grade competed in the March, Strathspey and Reel playing one of their 2 medleys - choice made on the line just before entering the arena. After the bands had all played once, they then had to play again for the Medley.
Another successful event was held in the 2013 UK City of Culture - Derry/Londonderry - the All Ireland Pipe Band Championships.
Chieftain for the day was Alderman Gary Middleton, Deputy Mayor of Londonderry and board member of Culture Company 2013.

Over 60 bands entered this All Ireland Championship. Enteries included Scotch College Band from Australia.
The weather was excellent - sunshine throughout the whole day.

Since the year 2000 when Scottish Power won this Championship, the overall winner has been Field Marshall Montgomery or St Laurence O'Toole.
