Alysia Cutting ~ Heart & Soul

Updated on June 29, 2019

Alysia Cutting is the Media personality known throughout New England as the "Heart & Soul" of the community. With a recent big transition from New Enagland to the South, she is pursuing a life long love for acting.

If you grew up or lived in the New England area over the past 2 decades, and are a fan of Jazz music, then chances are you are familiar with WEIB Radio, the North Hampton. MA. radio station that has catered the joyful sounds and rhythms of smooth jazz music to it's listeners for 20 years.

If you are familiar with WEIB radio, then you know that Alysia Cutting has been the station's "Ambassador at Large" with her own "Smooth Jazz After Dark" radio show, and for her countless personal appearances for charitable causes and community events, both for WEIB radio, and her own ALC Media Company.

Alysia has also served as the Communications and Marketing Director for the YMCA for many years creating activities for the communities' families and for youth, with a special emphasis on always empowering people, both as a positive role model and through sponsoring "useful" educational events and programs.

Now, as WEIB radio celebrates it's 20th year of broadcast excellence from it's inception in 1999, Alysia has taken on a new adventure with a life long love of acting, and has relocated to Atlanta, GA., the city that has exploded for actors with movie and TV productions over the last several years.

Although many of Alysia's fans miss her in New England, she is gaining new fans in a different medium, and her heart and soul still remains with her charitable work.

It's nice to know that no matter what Alysia Cutting's ventures or titles are, she remains true to giving and uplifting others.

I caught up with Alysia recently to discuss aspects of her career and new venture in Atlanta.

Q&A with Alysia

Thank you for your time Alyisia during this busy holiday season. I of course know of you as being the Program Director and on-air Personality at WEIB Radio from some years back when I was a artist manager looking to get my artist's music played on radio.

RW) How did you get involved in radio and who were some of your influences coming up that led you on that career path?

AC) Interestingly enough, I first got involved in radio when I was in high school. One of our community college radio stations featured a Monday night teen talk show and being the loquacious, opinionated teen that I was, I found a home on the mic. While I didn’t do student radio during my years at Tuskegee University, after graduation and some time as a mechanical engineer, I once again found a home on a new commercial FM Smooth Jazz station birthed by my mother, Carol Moore Cutting. Being the grateful daughter that I am (especially since my parents graced me to have no student loans), I brought my entire skills base to help grow the station in all capacities: as a radio personality, programming the sound, promotions, graphics design, operations, training jocks and writing/voicing/producing commercials. My mother’s tenacity to start WEIB 106.3 Smooth FM from scratch influenced me and gave me an opportunity to do what I love and what I’m good at. For that, I’m quite thankful to God.

RW) You attended Tuskeegee University and received an engineering degree, and worked for a while in that field. First, what was it like attending an HBCU like Tuskeegee, and how do you feel that prepped you to be successful in radio, if at all?

AC) I absolutely LOVED my years at Tuskegee University! My parents attended so we’d frequently visit.

RW) I always like to ask this question of professional people: if you were speaking to a group of young students in high school or college, who are considering a career in the media, what advice would you give them early on to be prepared for?

AC) Whenever I am blessed to speak at high schools, colleges or to anyone, I share the following advice:

1. Take EVERY opportunity to learn and add new skills to your “toolbox” via classes, internships,

volunteerism, online resources and personal contacts! There are careers that haven’t even been created yet. If you are a well rounded, life-long learner, skills you add NOW can help you parlay and even create FUTURE opportunities. Think about it: back in 2010, who would’ve thought it possible to legit have a successful career as a social media analyst?

2. Network and follow up! While everyone you meet might not be a future business partner,

mentor, client or employer, there’s likely something to learn in every interaction. Invest in yourself and connect with people in media, marketing, public relations and all related industries that interest you. Again, being “teachable” will only help YOU become more marketable and successful in media and as a person.

3. Always find ways to give back, pay it forward and cultivate community! The positive energy you release in the world will ALWAYS make its way back to you in due time... with interest!

RW) How can we find you on social media Alysia?

AC) I’m on as many platforms as I can currently handle lol! Feel free to follow me! IG: alcmedia FB: ALCMediaInc YouTube: ALC Media Inc LinkedIn: Alysia Cutting Web: www.ALCMediaInc.com

Thank you so much for your time. You are truly one of the most gracious Media professionals I have had the honor of meeting. We look forward to seeing you on both the big and little screen, and on stage, in a big way soon!

A Very Special Thank You Alysia!

Alysia,

Whether you knew this or not, I will always remember - back when I was a musician manager - driving from Hartford, CT. to North Hampton, MA. and WEIB Radio to give you a demo tape of an upstart Smooth Jazz guitarist, Eric Leone.

First of all, they didn't have GPS like they do now back then, and although North Hampton is not that far a drive from Hartford, it sure seemed like it took me forever to get there!

You (and WEIB) were one of the first radio stations outside of Hartford that supported Eric by playing his music, and that had a tremendous impact.

I have always wanted to thank you for your beautiful heart & soul.

Eric Leone
