Amagi Brilliant Park

Updated on January 9, 2015

Amagi Brilliant Park is an ongoing Japanese light novel series first published on February 20, 2013. A manga adaptation started serialization in March 2014 while the 13-episode anime adaptation first aired on October 6, 2014.

The story started when transfer student Isuzu Sento suddenly coerced her classmate, Seiya Kanie, to visit Amagi Brilliant Park, an unpopular and run-down local theme park.

1. Seiya Kanye

Seiya Kanie is a smart and good-looking high school student. However, he is a narcissist and isn't sociable, leaving him without friends or a girlfriend. One day, he is forced by Isuzu Sento to visit the Amagi Brilliant Park (Amaburi) and along with Latifah Fleuranza, was requested to manage the park because of a prophecy that he would save Amaburi from the brink of closure. Kanie is the main protagonist of Amagi Brilliant Park.

Trivia: His character name was inspired from Kanye West which can literally be translated into Kanie Seiya, as the Kanji characters for Seiya is written in the same way as the Kanji characters for "west."

2. Isuzu Sento

Isuzu Sento has been the acting manager of Amagi Brilliant Park until Kanie took over. She has a bossy personality, bordering between cool and cold, and has a tendency of forcing her way into things by resorting into threats or violence (with the aid of her magical muzzleloader). Much of her personality was influenced by her background, as it was later revealed that she was a royal guard from Maple Land.

It was hinted that she has developed feelings for Kanie as early as episode 6.

3. Latifah Fleuranza

Latifah Fleuranza is a princess from Maple Land. She has a weak and fragile constitution so she has to spend most of her times indoors. It was revealed that her condition was caused by a curse from a wizard from Maple Land. Her physical body and memory resets every 1st of August as another effect of the curse. In episode 1, she granted Kanie the magical ability to read people's mind by kissing him, and I was like, wtf. I am annoyed by her.

4. Moffle

Moffle is the lead and most popular mascot of the Amagi Brilliant Park. Moffle is a fairy of candy and is usually found inside Moffle's Candy House. Moffle and Kanie hated each other at first sight. He obviously resembles Full Metal Panic's mascot, Bonta-kun, as implied early in the anime series when Kanie said "I have no time to waste on this walking copyright violation" - referring to the distinct similarity between Moffle and Bonta.

Moffle is Latifah's uncle.

5. Macaron and Tirami

Macaron and Tirami are also mascots of Amagi Brilliant Park.

Macaron is a fairy of music who plays the violin. He is short-tempered and violent. He is currently divorced but is fighting for his daughter's custody. He performs regularly at the Macaron's Music Theater.

Tirami is a fairy of flowers who loves women. He is portrayed as a womanizer and is ready to betray his comrades all for the sake of women.

Both Macaron and TIrami have the tendency to slack off at work. Moffle, Macaron and Tirami appear to be drinking buddies. Sento occasionally joins them.

6. Elementario

A group of four fairies perform at the Elementario indoor theater. Current members are Sylphy, Koboli, Salama and Muse.

Muse is a water fairy who is good in dancing. She was not in good terms with Salama initially. Her weakness appeared to be typing.

Sylphy

Sylphy is a wind fairy and seems to be the most talented member of Elementario despite being childish and a fluffhead. She is an internet celebrity and has grown a fanbase online.

Koboli

Koboli is an earth fairy. She is not good in dancing as can be seen on episode 7 - "Not Enough Teamwork!"

Salama

Salama appears to be the most unmotivated member of Elemantario. She can be rude at times as was seen on Episode 7. She uses social media sites a lot.

7. Takaya Kurisu

Takaya Kurisu works for Amagi Development who will be taking over Amaguri once it fails to meet the 500,000 visitor mark by July 31. It was revealed on episode 12 that he was the wizard who cursed Latifah.

8. Aisu Kyubu

Aisu Kyubu is Kanie's aunt and guardian. Her work is in the magazine industry.

Kanie and Sento's relationship appear to be professional in the surface, as of season 1 at least. Sento wholeheartedly supports Kanie's efforts as the new manager while Kanie relies on Sento a lot as the chief secretary of Amagi Brilliant Park.

Things became more interesting on episode 4, after the broken drainage system incident, when Sento admitted to her flaws for being a strict manager for an entire year. She confessed to Kanie that she was unable to accept the fact that she failed in managing Amaburi, earning hatred from everyone in the park. Kanie assured her that they do not hate her, after everyone was thankful at how Sento managed the drainage system crisis.

Although there were early scenes hinting at the possibility of Sento liking Kanie, her feelings were only confirmed on episode 6, when Macaron made her eat a fruit which forces her to speak her mind. As a result, she almost confessed that she has developed strange feelings for Kanie, but stops herself at the last minute.

Near the end of episode 12, as Seiya is leaving Amaburi, Sento bid farewell to him. In response, Seiya blushed as he recalled memories about the park and everyone he met along the way. As he was about to speak to Sento, he changed his mind and did not say anything and went home.

Seiya Kanie and Latifah Fleuranza

Kanie and Latifah already met once when they were kids. Kanie somehow ended up in Latifah's quarters and saw her crying. When he asked her, Latifah explained that he was cursed by a wizard so Kanie used his acting abilities to try to cheer her up, but failed. Kanie felt misearble after Latifah responded with a meek smile as if Kanie was the one needed consoling.

When they met again, Latifah has already forgotten Kanie as an effect of the curse but Kanie vaguely remembers seeing Latifah in the past. She bestowed magic powers to Kanie by kissing him.

Kanie appears to be deeply concerned about Latifah. After learning that she was cursed, he felt more than eager to protect her.

In episode 12, he was frustrated because of his powerlessness over Latifah's fate and embraced her until midnight.

The opening theme song is "Extra Magic Hour" performed by AKINO with bless4 while the ending theme song is "Elementalio de Aimashou!" performed by the voice actresses behind Elematario: Muse, Sylphy, Salama and Koboli.

Amagi Brilliant Park has its fair share of nudity.

Additionally, this anime has its fair share of girls swooning over Seiya Kanie. Not that I like it.
