American Idol 11 Spoilers and Early Favorites

Updated on February 18, 2012

Colton Dixon, Baylie Brown and Deandre Brackensick Return

American Idol is almost set to kick off its 11th season in January. As always, a few sites release some spoilers of contestants before the audition shows air on Fox. According to TheIdolPad, there are a few returning contestants that had a lot of buzz last year or in previous seasons that at least made it back to the first Hollywood round for Season 11. Among this crop, early contestants that could break out as favorites include Colton Dixon, Deandre Brackensick and Baylie Brown.

Colton Dixon and Deandre Brackensick both made it all the way to the final cut before the live shows last year. Colton rates to be a strong favorite if they put him through. He may not have a super strong voice, but what he does have are a great vocal tone and musical skills. Colton is somewhat of a lighter version of Chris Daughtry. He is a bit more pop than rock, and we can expect him to play the piano, as well. Dixon would have been one of the favorites last year in all likekihood, but the producers decided to put cannon fodder like Brett Loewenstern through, instead. I guess they chose Scotty as the winner and saved Colton for later. If he gets his chance this year, look for Colton to easily make it deep in the competition.

Deandre Brackensick could have been picked, as well. He has a great range, but we will have to see how he performs a full song in front of a live audience if he gets his chance. I can't see why Deandre will not make it as long as he is consistent in the Hollywood rounds. As for winning, I would give Deandre less of a chance than Colton. The reason for this is Deandre doesn't seem to have a clear identity. He could have changed in a year, but last year, he was mainly known for having a great range. That is not really a musical identity, though. Dixon, on the other hand, appears to fit right in as the cool pop singer - perhaps leaning a little toward soft rock - who plays the piano. That, alone, will vitually assure him Top 5 if he gets a decent edit and remains fairly consistent in his performances. Deandre is a tossup, but it's going to take more than just singing high notes to win American Idol 11.

Baylie Brown is the country singer that was cut in the group round during Season 6. She was with Antonella Barba and Antonella's friend Amanda something, whose name is probably best forgotten because we will certainly never hear from her again. At any rate, while the show made Antonella and her friend look like villains, Baylie was 16 and full of excuses at the time. It was really her fault for not remembering lyrics. The other thing I noticed then is that Baylie seemed to want to sing only one song. Brown is truly beautiful, and she has a decent vocal tone. But we will have to see how much she has matured to see if she is ready to be a strong early favorite for American Idol 11.

Of course, this is just an early preview of what we may see for the 11th season of American Idol. It remains to be seen who will get the royal treatment from the producers and emerge as an early favorite. These are just the three I noticed at this early juncture who certainly have the potential to be one of the early favorites for the 2012 season of American Idol.

Updates From January 24, 2012

As the early rounds of the initial auditions have aired, Phillip Phillips has emerged as a clear favorite. Rumors are that Colton Dixon, DeAndre and Bailey are all in the Top 24.

On the girls' side, potential favorites are Elise Testone and Jessica Sanchez. Shannon Magrane may not have the musical identity to win, but she could emerge as a favorite with her excellent diversity and performance skills. Sklar Laine is a longshot, but if she successfully mixes in her southern rock with country, then she could emerge as a favorite.

At this point, the guys seem particularly weak in general compared to the girls. That may change as we see more performances. The other guy that caught my attention is Reed Grimm, but he is more of a fun contestant and good musician than the type of singer that usually wins.

Hollywood Week Update:

Two new contestants that really grasped my attention are Jen Hirsh and Joshua Ledet. These two might be the best singers in the whole group of contestants for American Idol 2012. At the same time, I am more worried about personality and buzz for these two. So far, they seem to have great singing with a high degree of soul and technique. But there doesn't seem to be a great deal of buzz about them. Look for Jen and Joshua to both emerge as possible favorites if they can show enough personality to get the casual vote.
