America’s Got Talent will be different when it returns for Season 14. Viewers will see a new host and two new judges. Fans of the show are wondering while host Tyra Banks is not returning as well as judges Mel B and Heidi Klum.

Changes are being made on America's Got Talent because the show now has competition with The World's Best on CBS hosted by James Corden and judges Drew Barrymore, RuPaul Charles, and Faith Hill.

The New Host

Terry Crews is replacing Tyra Banks as the show's new host. Tyra is leaving because she wants to follow up on some of the many producing and acting requests she has gotten. Her passion is to produce and create television shows. Therefore, she is leaving on her own after only two seasons to pursue other opportunities.

Crews is a 50-year-old television personality who is no stranger to the show because he is hosting America’s Got Talent: The Champions, a spin-off of America's Got Talent which premiered on January 7, 2019 and ends on February 18, 2019.

The new host also has other hosting experience. He hosted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire from 2014-15. His acting credits include NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Everybody Hates Chris and Are We There Yet?

Crews will be the fifth judge to host America's Got Talent that is going into its 14th season. It has had four other hosts since its premiere in June 2006. Banks was the only female host.

  1. Regis Philbin hosted the very first season.
  2. Jerry Springer hosted Seasons 2 and 3
  3. Nick Cannon hosted the longest for eight seasons from Season 4 to Season 11.
  4. Tyra Banks hosted only Seasons 12 and 13.
  5. Terry Crews will begin hosting in Season 14.

Each host brought his and her own personality and style on the stage. Crews seems to be the perfect choice to follow behind the hosts of the past seasons who did it their way.

Two New Judges

Actress Gabrielle Union and professional dancer Julianne Hough will be two new judges replacing Heidi Klum and Mel B. The decision to get two new judges was made to reinvent the reality show and to keep up with the competition.

Union, 46, is known for having starring roles in Being Mary Jane, Breaking In, Bring It On, Bad Boys II and Think Like a Man. She is expected to be a fair judge and add a lot to the reality show as she works along with the other three judges.

Hough was a two-time professional dance champion on Dancing with the Stars and the fourth judge for that dance competition show along with Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli. The 30-year-old new judge also has some acting credits. She starred in Grease: Live and Footloose. She is also a singer and the younger sister of Derek Hough who is a judge on World of Dance alongside judges Jennifer Lopez and Ne-Yo that also airs on NBC

According to Deadline, Meredith Ahr, President of Alternative and Reality Group at NBC Entertainment explained that the format is being changed to have fresh expert eyes joining Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel on at the judges' table.

Over the years, there have been many other judges that have included Brandy, David Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne, Howard Stern, Piers Morgan, Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, Mel B, and Heidi Klum.

Why Judges Are Being Replaced

Tyra Banks opted out of returning for Season 14. The public is wondering while Mel B and Heidi Klum are not returning. Instead, they are being replaced with Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough. Creator and producer of the show Simon Cowell is ready for new judges. However, he and Mandell are keeping their positions. In fact, Cowell just renewed a multi-year deal with NBC.

Mel B and Heidi joined the show at the same time during Season 9. They came on together and also leaving together after five seasons.

Gabrielle and Julianne are expecting to bring fresh entertainment to the show along with Terry Crews. Officials of the show believe viewers will be pleased with the changes when the reality show returns for Season 14.
