An Evening of Comedy at Celebrations
A Night of Pure Laughter
Laughing Out Loud, was the theme for the evening. This was accomplished through numerous proficient comedians that had the knack for pure and genuine instigation of laughter. There was no foul language spoken to obtain smiles but profound talent based on life experiences. The evening of comedy also consisted of legendary performances by CP Lacey, who performed Michael Jackson along with The Jackson Five's, I'll Be There. Comedians dazzled the audience with experiences about the days of the week, old fashion soul train lines and tap dancers. It was an evening filled with comedic enthusiasts.
Members of the LOL Crew Were Hilarious
Rachmaun, who served as one of the comedians as well as host, presented unsullied words of expressions concerning his family life experiences. Rachmaun talked about his three sons and his role as dad. It reminded me of the famous standup comedian, Bill Cosby. He had the audience laughing histerically, during the explanation of the difference between married and single people when certain songs are played by a Disc Jockey. Rachmaun eagerly demonstrated how the married people with children don't get out as much, "when some songs come on, we lose our minds and start dancing wild." Songs like, Down, Down Do Your Thing and Back It Up. As these songs played during his performance, some married couples did get up and dance which truly generated pure laughter. This evening of fun was filled with comedic enthusiasts.
One of the major founding members of the LOL Crew, Quinten Dantley, performed for his first time at Celebrations. This charismatic, funny, comedian has a boyish temperament who enjoys fearuring the comedy talent of other individuals. Quinten has helped organized comedy shows in Philadelphia, Delaware and Washington, DC. His main focus has been clean, creative comedians that are in search of an opportunity to display their talent. Quinten or as some call him "Que," believes that foul languange is just not necessary to get a good laugh. He believes that audiences are more impressed when--you can use life experiences as numerous professional comedians have done over the years, without cursing to make people laugh. Sinbad and Bill Cosby are masters at this particular craft of presenting family oriented comedy. They are also an inspiration to the LOL Crew. "With stand-up, sketches and music performers, we have something for everyone. We bring the type of comedy that can be enjoyed by all but still maintains a modern edge that has mass appeal," stated Quinten. He looks forward to future shows and comedians that he can promote.
There was an array of comedians for the evening at Celebrations. Reggie Myers, performed an adroit effort of tap dance that was impressive. He explained how the concept evolved from a skit performed on Bill Cosby's television show based on Sandman. Reggie is also inspired by such tremendous talent as the Nicholas Brothers. He enjoys performing tap that everybody can conprehend. Myers also recommended that, "Now Thats Entertainment do more of these shows that present skits that people can enjoy and recognize." This young man was not only extremely talented but genuinely concerned about comedy being kept clean so that people of all ages can enjoy it even more. Alex Watts, another dynamic comedian discussed how he loves stand-up. "I get on the stage and tell the truth. The truth is always funny." After thanking everyone for attending the show, Alex final words were, "Love, peace and chicken grease." J.R. Mack, was also a very funny comedian who has performed with LOL for more than two years. Mack made this profound statement about the importance of laughter, "Most definitely, laughter is healing. You can change a person's whole day." John Terrell, out of Philadelphia, Pa started out in comedy as a hobby. His performance complemented the LOL crew's determination to maintain edifying laughter.
Creativity continued to evolve during the evening as C.P. Lacey, an amazing caricuture comedian. He opened his performance playing, the character of an old man who pretended to be a player with very few teeth. Lacey's performance had the audience in complete laughter. He also satrized such characters as the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, Tina Turner as well as Michael Jackson which is demonstrated in the video above. C.P. Lacey is a professional that has been in the business of entertainment for numerous years. He demonstrates exemplary audience contact and participation which make Lacey's parodies delightful. The creativity of the Weeks Family, was compelling and humorous. They featured a satire of our lives on a daily basis from Monday through Sunday. The spoof of Friday being a pay day-etched thoughts of familiarity into the minds of audience members which caused them to fill the room with laughter. Saturday and Sunday were recognized as the cool laid back days. The most horrific day of the week was Monday, where the majority of the world returned to work. The imagery, words and parody, were very successful comedically. Marvin, along with Ciara, who served as Creative Director for the segment, both acknowledged how difficult it is to find clean entertainment especially within the field of comedy. They decided to get together with some of their friends and create this distinct type of comedy. These various segments that were depicted, proved the level of talent and creativity each comedian maintained. We look forward to shows from the LOL crew in the future.
