And The Brit Album Of The Year Is
Florence And The Machine
Let me introduce you to Florence Welch, lead singer of Florence and the Machine, this years winner of best album at The Brit Awards, and to my great delight, as I'm obsessed with this woman's voice; unique, distinctive, powerful, and that she is red hot also helps. The award is thoroughly deserved for her debut album "Lungs" which is my favourite album of the year too.
This woman has a voice, when I listen to her, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up like a bunch on eager meerkats, quite an amazing voice. Florence and the machine are from London, England and been around since 2007, but only really came in to the light in 2009. The style of music can be described as Indie pop/rock/soul, but it's her unique voice which has captured myself, and made me into a number 1 fan.
How to sing
Been able to sing
Now there's a big reason why I like Florence and the Machine, and that's due to her actually been able to sing live. With myself, been able to sing live in the music industry is a big thing, a must. Seriously, I cant stand you or your band, if you can't produce the same sound as you did, when you sat comfortable in your recording studio, letting computers do the work for you. Think about it, it's the equivalent of a chef producing a bad meal, a writer writing a bad book, a sloppy painting been passed of as art, with all these examples imagine the criticism. it's all in the trade, and producing music, be it pop, rock whatever, if you can't produce it live, you shouldn't expect people to pay their hard earned cash for your albums or gigs.
Now here, I'll give an example, I hate to put this artist anywhere on my pages but this is what I'm talking about, check this out, you'll probably only last a few seconds as it's shockingly bad. On to the red carpet, steps, Amy Winehouse with her murdering version of " Monkey Man. I apologise Toots and the Maytals for this disgrace.
Aaaahhhhhhhh stop stop stop, In the words of Marlon Brando " The horror, The horror" seriously, I cant believe she gets away with this muck, and people pay for this, stand there a clap, the nerve, the shame. Thank you Florence for saving my ears with your live performances. She has appeared on The Dave Letterman Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Jools Holland as well as appearing at many of the major festivals, and when she sings live, well, hopefully you will check out the live performances I have posted here, and maybe you will join me in been a huge fan, because 2010 is going to be their year, you can bet on that.
I have also posted a cover of Beyonce's Halo she did, well worth checking out too. So, enjoy the music, I hope you do, and congratulations Florence on your award, well deserved for outstanding talent, looking forward to the second album this year. Enjoy.
