10 Anime Like Handa-kun

Handa-kun follows the awkward yet comedic high school life of Handa Sei. For Handa though, he believes that he is hated by everyone in school. Little did he know that, he’s actually quite popular, and in a very good way!

Everyone acknowledges Handa’s talent in calligraphy, and most admires him for being good-looking, seemingly cool, and serene. But Handa-kun himself begs to differ! Due to his social awkwardness, he thinks that everyone is out to get him! And this is why he has always been friendless and unapproachable. His whole life is a big misunderstanding! Yet, he still shines! Follow Handa’s life in school as his uniquely weird personality and beliefs drive him into a hurricane of fun and chaos!

With all being said, here are more anime like Handa-kun! Admit it! I know you want something more to laugh about and get yourself entertained with to no end! So here they are! Watch them all and smile all you want!

1. Barakamon

If you still haven’t noticed, Handa-kun was based on Barakamon. The difference? While Handa-kun focuses on Handa Sei's awkward yet comedic high school life while Barakamon concentrates on Handa’s still awkward yet refreshing new life at the country side.

Handa was sent to the countryside to cool-off after inadvertently losing his temper at a calligraphy exhibit. His exile was both a punishment for him and an opportunity for self-reflection. Although everything’s now far from the comfortable embrace of city life, Handa must persist in order for him to refresh his well-being and find new inspiration. And so, the new life for Handa began to manifest. What seemed to be just an ordinary and boring exile would actually turn out be one of the most defining and memorable events in Handa’s life!

Tanaka-kun is the most listless and lethargic student in school. For some reason, the only thing he wants to do is relax. No matter what the situation is, he just unwittingly falls asleep without a care in the world! That’s who Tanaka-kun is in a nutshell.

Tanaka-kun does have his friends and classmates to look after him and motivate him in life. But, the combined effort of everyone isn’t nearly enough, leading to all the moments centered on Tanaka-kun ending in funny, refreshing, and adorable situations. Well, to each his own, and Tanaka-kun will always be himself—lethargic, restless, unmotivated, and lazy!

From the very first day of school, a certain student blazed the grounds, corridors, and classrooms with his overwhelming coolness. Cool, cooler, coolest—he’s everything that the word “awesome” describes! Well, haven’t you heard? He’s Sakamoto!

Sakamoto is just so awesome and cool! But because he’s awesome and cool, some students can’t help but admire him or even get jealous. And so, some have tried bringing him down! It’s all but futile attempts though, because for each challenge or threat—Sakamoto just effortlessly breezes through, making him look cooler and more amazing!

What do high school boys do? Well, what they do shouldn’t be surprising at all! High school boys naturally do all sorts of weird and funky things. They talk about girls, they play games, they fool around—everything they do is the very essence of being a high school boy. And this anime, tackles about all of those in a very comical and hilarious manner—just the way they are supposed to be!

After everything that has been said, Sanada North High School is certainly not an exception! As a matter of fact, it’s even more intricate because it’s an all-boys school! And so, the more boys the merrier! High school boys can really be funny and amusing so just follow the students of Sanada North High and laugh with their wacky school lives!

5. Tonari no Seki-kun

School life may be boring for most students, but that definitely is not the case for Seki-kun! He’s the master of killing time so boring lectures, sleep-inducing school activities, and uninteresting discussions are no big deal for him and his antics!

Much to his seatmate Rumi Yokoi though, Seki-kun is pretty annoying! Every time Seki plays with boredom-buster implements and ideas, Rumi can’t help but get distracted. And to make matters worse, Seki-kun never gets caught! Oftentimes, it’s always Rumi who gets reprimanded because she’s not paying attention. Will Rumi be ever able to focus in her studies and bust Seki? Or will Seki succeed in every boredom-buster antic he pulls off? Such is the mundane life of Rumi and Seki in school!

6. Gintama

It’s the feudal period of Japan and the alien race known as the “Amanto” have launched an invasion! As a result, swords have been banned and the samurai have been reduced to nothing more than ordinary people.

In a certain place, there exists a man named Gintoki—a samurai who never lost his passion and heart for the way of the sword. But now, instead of hacking and slashing, he does odd jobs for a living! Be it something that involves aliens, police officers, goons, pirates, ghosts, or whatever—Gintoki will accept the job with his samurai heart!

7. Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)

Kusuo Saiki is a powerful psychic! He has the abilities of telekinesis, telepathy, psychometry, pyrokinesis, and more! But despite being a peerless psychic, Saiki claims that it isn’t as good as it was made out to be! In reality, Saiki finds his psychic skills dragging because he can’t live like everyone else!

And so, Saiki tries his best to live as ordinary and as simple as it can be! Especially now that he’s already in high school, he wants some peace of mind! Away from the noise of world, away from unnecessary tasks, and away from the nuisance of having psychic powers—Saiki just wants a normal life!

8. Himouto! Umaru-chan

A beautiful and almost perfect human by day and a lazy, food-grubbing otaku by night—this is Umaru Doma in a nutshell! By day, she’s almost perfect! Umaru is so beautiful and intelligent that she easily begets people to admire her. But by night, she dons her hamster hoodie and transforms into a lazy otaku who mostly annoys her brother, Taihei Doma.

This is the story of Umaru-chan and her weird antics as she annoys the hell out of Taihei and tries to hide her otaku-side from everyone else. Ready or not, Umaru, Taihei, and friends are about to showcase a one-of-a-kind and hilarious slice of their lives together!

9. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

A misunderstood love confession started it all! Sakura Chiyo finally musters some courage in order to confess her love for Umetarou Nozaki. Unfortunately, Nozaki misinterprets her confession as one who loves him to one who’s a diehard fan of him. And so, Nozaki unsuspectingly gives his autograph to her. As it turns out, he’s actually a shoujo mangaka—one who creates shoujo manga!

Thus, Sakura claims the chance to be Nozaki’s assistant! From that day, they spend their youthful time looking for inspirations and fresh ideas for their shoujo manga creations. Their school lives are, after all, very similar to shoujo manga themselves!

10. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom)

Meet Koro-sensei—the newest teacher of class 3-E of Kununigaoka middle school! Unlike al other teachers though, he is different! Koro-sensei has a weird appearance and has multiple tentacles. As a matter of fact, he’s a powerful creature who’s responsible for the destruction of a huge part of the moon. Those are beside the point though, because now, he’s a teacher!

As a teacher, Koro-sensei must teach his students thoroughly—all until they are capable of assassinating him! Yes, assassination! It’s all part of the deal! Koro-sensei asked the government if he could teach in exchange for him trying to get his students to assassinate him. If his students fail though, then he’ll destroy the world!
