Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (also known as Your Lie in April) is a romance/drama/music anime that follows the story of Kousei Arima as he discovers the true meaning of the music of his life. Ever since his mom died, Kousei was rendered unable to hear his own music. As a result, he took down his piano and kept it away in the shadow. Now in high school, he enjoys hanging out with his friends and living the simple life—all away from his own melody and his past.

One day, a whimsical girl named Kaori Miyazono—a playful and cheerful violinist—appears in Kousei’s life. She tries to bring him to play his piano once again! After all, Kousei is a musical prodigy, and letting him stagnate would be such a waste. And so, Kaori does her best in trying to make Kousei open his heart once again to the music that he used to cherish the most. This is a musical adventure that dives deep into a sea of melody, searching for lost tones, and facing the music of life head-on!

This show is overly dramatic as it is romantic, which is a good thing, because it definitely is capable of tugging at the heartstrings. That is why, it is something that not only attunes with itself, but also, attunes with the audience. Music is meant to be enjoyed by everyone, and such is what this show offers. 18-year-old Tsukasa Mizugaki lands a job in the Terminal Service of the Sion Artificial Intelligence Corporation. As first, he thought that his job will be as simple and as easy as he initially assessed. But then, he realizes that it’s actually not, especially when he has to retrieve Giftias that are so close to their expiration dates to do his job. Good thing he has his partner—Isla—to assist him and share all the burden of the job. But the thing is, Isla is also a Giftia—and Giftias don’t last forever!

Yuzuru Otonashi out-of-the-blue finds himself awake in a place that seems to be like school but not quite so. Later on, he finds out that he’s actually dead and the place he is in is afterlife! To add more surprise, Yuzuru is caught-up in a war between the students of the school and an angelic girl they call Tenshi! What exactly is happening and how did Yuzuru end up there in the first place?

As it turns out, everyone in the so-called afterlife school needs to graduate in order to actually transcend into the real afterlife. Most of the students are confused and jumbled, hence, they are locked in a war with the one who wants them to graduate—Tenshi! Tenshi whose name is actually Kanade Tachibana is an almost invincible misunderstood girl who actually knows something and only wants everyone to graduate. So, when Yuzura comes and tries to talk to her and understand her, the stalled course of the afterlife school gradually changes.

Kaoru Ishimi is a talented classical pianist whose personality is introverted due to his past circumstances. Ever since he was young, he hopped from place to place unable to make long-lasting connections and friends. Thus, his past was what shaped him into what he is now.

Right after transferring into another school for the year, Kaoru begins to experience what he used to not conceive in the past—friendship. It started with Sentarou Kabuchi—a delinquent boy whose love for jazz music is incomparable! Soon after the fateful encounter, Kaoru starts to get interested in jazz music and change his own self forever. Finally, friendship has begun to open-up for him, enabling him create music that he and others can enjoy!

The Light Music Club has come to a point that it’s about to cease to exist because most of its members have already left. Guitar-playing student, Haruki Kitahara, won’t allow that though! And so, one day, he chances upon a beautiful voice and a melodic piano sound that blends harmoniously with his guitar music. The beautiful voice is owned by a girl named Setsuna Ogiso while the melodic piano sound came from the girl pianist named Kazusa Touma. With “White Album” as the core music and the two girls playing music with him, saving the Light Music Club and participating in the school music festival may not just be a fleeting dream anymore.
