Audition and Predictions for Tim Poe (War Veteran and Singer) On America's Got Talent 7
Tim Poe may turn out to be the biggest viral hit from the 7th season of America's Got Talent. He also stands a good chance of making it to the finale so long as the judges and producers put him in the Top 48 voting rounds.
Poe is a U.S. military veteran who has served in Afghanistan. While there, he got hit by a grenade, which caused a serious brain injury. One lasting effect of the injury is that he stutters when speaking.
Now, Tim is a singer, and he started singing as part of his therapy.
As a lover of talent and someone who roots for the talented acts on AGT, I have mixed feelings here about Tim Poe. I salute his service to the country, and he did show a decent voice when singing Garth Brooks' "When Tomorrow Never Comes." On the other hand, I have already seen at least one much better singer for Season 7 in Luiz Meneghin. And while I appreciate the substance of Tim Poe's backstory, I never consciously vote on backstory.
If Kevin Skinner can win, it is certainly within the realm of possibility for Tim Poe to win America's Got Talent. He has a much more compelling backstory than Kevin, and they seem to have a similar talent level. Heck, they even performed the same song for their initial auditions.
It is easy to predict that Tim will make the Top 10 if he is in the voting rounds. I think Kevin Skinner was somewhat of a fluke, though. I have often stated that I think backstories are overrated as a way to predict voting success. This is the ultimate backstory, so I am going to put this to the test. I don't think Tim Poe will win America's Got Talent 7 unless he shows some improvement in his singing. But he can easily make the Top 10 and probably easily make the Top 5. It is still possible but unlikely that the show may cut him in Las Vegas.
I will update this article after the Las Vegas auditions with my final prediction about Tim Poe's success on AGT. I want to hear him at least one more time to make sure he didn't just memorize and practice one song. And he could be cut for various reasons and not even make it to the voting rounds.
