Barnsey's Band - Tragic Poets - Let Me Breathe
Who were the Tragic Poets?
They were at first just three guys in a basement. Drummer Ed Atlee, Guitarist Don Marshall and Bassist Ken Conboy. They didnt yet have a singer and they knew I could write lyrics. I used to be in another band and spent a lot of time writing songs with friends before that. I introduced my lyrics but they had no singer, no voice. I had never fashioned myself as a singer. Introversion is my speciality after all, but no one else stepped up to sing so after stinking up the place for a few months I eventually found my voice. Once I was passable I did my best to insinuate my influence.
It was a struggle to yank the wheel toward metal and away from punk rock but I did it for the most part. There was no way I could turn the punk drummer into anything other than what he was though so we made our music and blended our styles amicably.
Let me Breathe was a musical collaboration that surprised we the band because we'd decided to switch things up a bit. Don took the bass, Ken took up an Acoustic guitar and I played the electric to back them up and brought forth some lyrics I had written while full of teenage angst and heartbreak.
I would love it if everyone gave a little critique. I havent been in the band for an entire decade now so it wont hurt my feelings, I promise. Go ahead and let us know what you think!
PS - Yes, in case you are not in the know, I already hubbed the lyrics to this song as an Attempt at Poetry by Barnsey.
