Once Upon a Time
ODE TO A PHOTO
Angelic face veiled with secrets
Sullen, oblivious eyes,
Ablaze with twinkling innuendo
A suggestive secret
Who do you share your innermost truth?
A delight to look upon
As your image is fixed,
Emboldened and yet
To fill, fulfill our picture of you.
You are such a beauty
Wisdom and knowing look back from soulful, mysterious stare
What a beautiful creature you are
With a countenance like an angel.
What plans have you for this brief moment we share?
Sudden impact occurs, so many years later
As I am shaken with the very depth of you
Many masks, multiple illusions,
A changeling before my eyes then…
Torn among thought, expression,
Through time and tide you move
And speak to untrained minds,
Seeking to grace virgin ground
Which only time will till
With the fruit of awareness
Like a stranger in a strange land
You walk above it all; yet,
Immersed in the pool and swirl of primordial birth
You rejoice in our youth
Our innocent bliss.
It is as though
Time as not passed
20 years is as long ago
You are everywhere
I take you into every part of me.
As though this time has flown
Old feelings renewed and biting
I am excited
Just as I was
Thoughts and yearnings are mysterious worlds
It is odd, how one can fool oneself
For an instant
I see you looking back from windows
The movie screen
But, fool myself no more
You are no longer here
I search to unlock the secret
Find a way, perhaps
To make you real
