Kannan believes music is God's gift to mankind. With this in mind, he creates articles for other music lovers.

In its history, India has never produced anyone of A. R Rahman's stature; the Mozart of Madras as he is described and has been credited as one of the most influential person in the world of music.

From composing scores for Hindi, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam songs, to even commercial anthems; his tunes are also internationally acclaimed. Every where he has created magic with his music. His fans are not just limited to India but his popularity is such that people from all over the world love him.

Truly, whatever he touches becomes gold.

It is no hidden truth that people from across the film fraternity line-up for him in search for "original songs". Film after film his composition have stood aside from the many songs that come and go. His songs are never compared with anyone, and never will be. It is also a fact that Rahman is a man who carries out extensive research to bring out the best from his and others capabilities.

His music touches the heart, soul, and instills a sense of hope amid the despair and angriness of the daily life.

Songs composed by him a decade before seem fresh as ever. Listening his songs are a great mood lifter. One word for him is: Different. He is different from from many composers. Has a great voice to complement.

The famous singer started his career from the Tamil hit film Roja and got the National award for best music direction, which before him never was received by any first-time composer, and still hasn't. Talking of awards will be a far-stretch for this article. He has received so many awards that no other person in the entire film fraternity can ever think of, such is his list of awards.

A heartthrob of many Indians and shiningly listed on many Facebook profiles.

Below is the list of my top favorite songs of A.R Rahman.

| Source

10| Chaiya Chaiya - Dil Se

A song which got great reviews for the way it's picturised, choreographed and sung. But for all this to happen A. R Rahman had to produce a number that complemented all of this.

Rahman did exactly that. Despite which all the hard work would have gone unnoticed.

Malaika Arora got instant success after this song.

The film could not gather much of the audience attention, but the music did.

09| Robaroo - Rang De Basanti

All of Rang De Basanti songs are great, but this stands out for me because of the lyrics.

Naresh Iyer has sung this song so well; also a feature of Rahman to bring out the best among fairly new singers. Naresh was awarded the National award for Best Male Playback Singer, all thanks to Rahman.

Rang De Basanti was a major hit and the music too.

08| Tere Bina - Guru

Guru 's initial publicity had much to do with the music than any thing else.

Abhishek Bachan had a series of flops before Guru. Guru's music hit the right node among the movie-lovers which in turn got people approaching towards the box office.

Not to deny the fact that the movie was equally good and the lead characters did absolute justice to their roles.

The other song that got huge people's attention was Mayya Mayya, with Mallika Sherawat shaking a leg to it.

07| Yeh Jo Desh Hai Mera - Swades

Every time I listen this song it sends shivers to my whole body. The composition respects the lyrics and sung by Rahman, now that's the icing on the cake.

A perfect song considering the situation of the film. Again a quality which is so rare for many composers, to compose songs that demands the situation of the movie.

06| Jai Ho - Slumdog Millionaire

The song which got international recognition for Rahman. The song which ruled the charts for the better part of 2008.

Excellently choreographed and the lively voice of Sukhwinder Singh.

Slumdog Millionaire also happens to be the first movie for which he got an Oscar award. The award came for song named O...Saya.

05| Mitwaa - Lagaan

The fun song is another song which is what because of the music composition by Rahman.

Lagaan, one of the biggest hits of the last decade has the tunes of Rahman.

Only and only Rahman could have created such kind of music which the film demanded.

The song comes at the time when Bhuvan, played by Aamir Khan tries to garner the confidence of the villagers as to go ahead and to compete against the Angrez in a cricket match that will save the village from two years of paying illegal tax.

04| Arziyan - Delhi 6

Arziyan, the sufi song sung by Javed Ali, Kailash Kher, and the lyrics by Prasoon Joshi.

The film did not got much attention at the box office but the charming songs did. All the songs of the movie are equally great.

Some of the other great songs of the movie:

  • Masakali - Mohit Chauhan
  • Rehna Tu - A. R. Rahman, Benny Dayal, Tanvi Shah
  • Genda Phool - Rekha Bhardwaj, Shrradha Pandit, Sujata

03| Choti Se Aasha

The lovely song from Roja which is the first movie for which Rahman composed the songs.

The simplicity of the song is the reason every time I hit the repeat button.

Amazing video.

Watch the video adjoining for experiencing the amazing scenes.

02| Khwaja Mere Khwaja - Jodhaa Akbar

Epic movie and epic song.

01| Maa Tujhe Salaam

Now the top song for me is Maa Tujhe Salaam: one of the best patriotic song ever.

Mujhe Tujhe Salaam is the the best song sung and composed by Rahman according to me.

Download these songs and enjoy your way to your office.
