Best BBC Comedy Shows

Updated on August 10, 2013

Why BBC shows are the Best?

I'm a huge fan of British Humour, since I've been living in GB for quite some time now, that's almost a must, I would think. I just cannot get enough of the amazing casts in all BBC sitcoms. Well, almost all.

I just love Dawn French and all she does, let's not forget Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. But there are also lots more of great, funny actors and actresses, such as the cast of Little Britain and of course Catherine Tate.

I've been watching BBC sitcoms since I was a child. I remember watching You rang M'Lord, Allo Allo, Black Adder, etc. with my family and laughing my ass off. Funny as hell!

I hope this website will make 1 or 2 of you visitors check out any of these amazing shows and maybe you'll also become a fan of British sitcoms, because you all know that British have the best sense of humour out there. Eat that America :)

Episodes

Episodes is a hit British BBC comedy series, which also has great success overseas. The cast is a mixture of European (British) and American actor jewels. The series revolves around Matt LeBlanc, a beat-down actor, who was once extremely famous, but now he is out of work and looking to make his comeback once again. The series is set on the real life of Hollywood star, Matt LeBlanc, and is a clever solution of including his character into a series. The series follows a young English married couple who made their fortune and became famous with a comedy series in England and have later on tried to make their breakthrough also on the American market. The couple is played by Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan. The series is one of my favourites, since it is a great mixture of British humour and Hollywood actors. And Matt LeBlanc is always an added plus.

The Catherine Tate Show

Catherine Tate Show starring the amazingly talented Catherine Tate who really came to fame with this amazingly hilarious sketch comedy show. The comedy lasted 3 season, hopefully the producers will soon decide to start shooting some new episodes, although at the moment that seems highly unlikely. Catherine Tate super characters include among others, "Nan", "Derrick" and the out-of-this world hilarious "Lauren Cooper" who even invented a new English word which made it all the way into the English dictionary, "bowered". If you are a true fan of British comedy and humour, this is just the right show for you!

Miranda

Miranda is currently by far the most popular comedy series on BBC. The show is currently airing its third season on BBC1 (it airs every Monday) and let me just tell you, it is absolutely fantastic, even out-of-this-world hilarious if you are into British humor. The comedy series revolves around Miranda, played by the fantastic stand-up comedian Miranda Hart, who just couldn't be funnier. Don't even let me get started on how I start laughing my ass off already when I just see her. She is really tall and looks awfully funny, being all that clumsy on the show. And enough said that she writes her lines and the lines of other characters herself. The series also stars the fantastic Patricia Hodge, who plays Miranda's mother and is always trying to marry her off. Her lines are iconic, lines as "Such fun"; "What I call...." etc. Miranda's best friend in played by Sarah Hadland, playing a small and quirky friend of Miranda's. Sally Phillips is another great actress playing a hilarious part, with also some popular lines, such as "bear with" and her "mixtures of words". There is also something, or better said someone, for women to feast their eyes on, namely the super charming Tom Ellis, who plays Miranda's great love interest. An amazing show, which you won't regret watching, when you decide to feast your eyes on this amazing diamond of British Comedy. A must for all British Comedy fans!

Absolutely Fabulous

Absolutely Fabulous is BBC's cult tv-series. It is regarded, besides BlackAdder, Allo Allo, A bit of Fry and Laurie, as the leading horse of BBC comedy throughout tv history. The series got to a firing start in the early 1990s with the two leading actresses, Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley acquiring their cult status already during the 1st episode. The series is absolutely hilarious, with both leading characters getting into trouble in each episode. They are perceived as walking fashion statements, Patsy (Joanna Lumley) always being chic and really astonishing in her outfits, while on the other hand, Edina (Jennifer Saunders) always making a mockery of herself with her independent fashion statements. The series has just recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with 6 amazing seasons behind us. Don't forget that both ladies made a 6th season a season of specials which aired on BBC in 2012. The cast is completed by the ever so wonderful Julia Sawalha (Saffy), June Whitfield (mother) and the over-talented and ever so hilarious Jane Horrocks.

Let them eat Cake

Let them eat cake is for me personally the best tv show that has ever aired on BBC. And not only that it is for me the most hilarious tv show that aired on TV ever! Yes, I am serious! The show is so deviously carefully planned with an amazing setting in the late 18th century French court of Versailles. Remember Marie Antoinette and "off with her head"? Well, here you have her saying "Let them eat cake". The both magnificent minds of Dawn French andJennifer Saunders did it once more. After the great success of their shows (Absolutely Fabulous, French&Saunders, The Vicar of Dibley), they again joined forces and set up this amazing show. The show was a huge setback for all the costume and make-up artists who had loads of work for the shooting of almost each scene. This was also one of the reasons why this amazing show lasted only 1 season. But hey, don't hold that against the show. I promise you, the show is amazing. The best show you'll ever have the pleasure of watching (of course if you are like me and are able to appreciate the highly intelligent English humour). The series also stars Alison Steadman (playing the fantastic Madame de Plonge, which means Madame Horny).

I have been awestruck by Catherine Tate ever since I first saw her mad translation skills. I enjoyed her bringing her humor to Dr. Who as well.

      Cool list.
