We've all been to that terrible place where you've just had a breakup with someone you love. Your heart is broken, and all you want to do is curl up and cry to emotionally appropriate music. Here's a list of the best breakup songs to listen to, sob to, and start the long journey of the healing process. Don't worry - there are many wonderful things about being single. But for now you need to vent. Listen to these tunes to help let it all out. Ten points if you howl into your pillow, twenty points if you make your voice sound husky for the rest of the evening.

1. The Script - Nothing

This is a great song for the horrible, raw moment when you still can not quite believe that it's over. If you listen to this without tearing up, then that's a good thing - it means you're not quite as upset as you thought. However, if you howl to this (I know I have before), then you're ready to begin healing. The lyrics are hauntingly accurate, and as always the Script has a gift for portraying the rawest of heartbroken emotions.

"If she sees how much I'm hurting, she'll take me back for sure."

2. Gabrielle - Out of Reach

This song featured in Bridget Jones' Diary and describes well the sadness that comes with heartbreak. It's comforting to know that other people feel the same as you do right now, because you know you will eventually heal.

"So confused, my heart's bruised... was I ever loved by you?"

3. Rammstein - Ohne Dich (Without You)

Although it's in German, you can really feel the pain of "Ohne Dich (Without You)" and its message of not being able to go on without love. Rammstein as a band usually go for metal music but their one or two love songs out there are incredible. See the full English translation here. The English lyrics are also included in the video. However, even without understanding the lyrics, the music itself will be enough to portray the heartbreak. Give it a listen.

"Woe is me, oh woe, and the birds sing no more."

4. The Script - Breakeven

Another of the top tens spot goes to the Script. "Breakeven" is another horribly accurate song about the woes of a breakup and how the other person doesn't ever seem to be as badly affected by it as you. Check out "Breakeven" if you want someone to put your feelings into words right now.

"I'm falling to pieces."

5. Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache

If you love metal music, this powerful song will fit perfectly for you. Howard Jones really portrays his pain through heart-pounding lyrics and great vocals. Not to mention the angry and heartbroken lyrics.

"Sleep brings release in the hope of a new day... waking the misery of being without you."

6. A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras

A Perfect Circle's "3 Libras" is about being invisible to the person who you love, even when you give them everything. Not necessarily a breakup song, but fits well when you're feeling betrayed and heartbroken. I've cried to it before after a breakup, so it deserves to be on this list.

"Difficult not to feel a little bit disappointed, and passed over... and you don't see me."

7. Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball

Despite the controversial video, this song is fantastic to listen to after you've been hurt and used by someone you thought loved you.

"All you ever did was wreck me."

8. Evanescence - My Immortal

Amy Lee has a beautiful voice and you can really hear her pain in "My Immortal", which describes how much she misses her long-term (partner? Friend? It's not completely clear). The lyrics are pure, and the piano music is great to listen to. Check it out.

"I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone, but though you're still with me, I've been alone all along."

9. Snow Patrol - You Could Be Happy

"You Could Be Happy" is definitely at least in the top three of this list. Sad, painfully innocent and loving, this song has shed a tear or two from a lot of people. It's about some time after a breakup, and Gary Lightbody is wondering if she's happy and whether she pursued all the things she wanted to do. This suggests that they fell out of contact after the breakup, too, which makes it even more sad.

"Somehow everything I own smells of you. For the tiniest moment, it's all not true."

10. Muse - Endlessly

Muse has an incredible gift of describing pure, raw emotions. "Endlessly" is a good song to listen to some time after your breakup, but when you're still hopelessly in love with the person you miss. Apparently, the song was so difficult to sing on stage that it made Matthew Bellamy break down on stage. I could list a handful of songs from Muse for this list - Madness, Bliss, Follow Me, but "Endlessly" makes this list because of the painful honesty of it.

Time heals heartbreak, but you can feel sad and lonely for a long while before you start to feel better. Sometimes songs portray the emotions that you find so hard to communicate. Just remember that it will get better, and pursue your hobbies and interests in the meantime to keep your mind busy.

Hopefully, these 10 songs can help you let out your emotions and start the healing process.

Hi Randall! Everything is fine, I just had the idea for this hub for a while. Thank you so much for your concern, it means a lot. Thank you for your valuable comment.

I have heard Evanescence before. Some of the music reminds me of the groups Scala, and the Kolacnv Brothers. They perform many songs together. I like a song they perform called Hungriges Herz. They also do a great version of the song Friday, though their visual illustrations could have been better I think.

As for this hub, it is my humble opinion that you did a great job of laying it out.

Considering the topic of your hub Poppy, let me just say that I hope that all is well with you.

      Best wishes,
