Best Chicago Songs of the 1980s
Chicago Greatest Hits 1982 - 1989
Chicago Songs Of The 1980s
I love the group Chicago. I listened to them as a youngster growing up, a teenager going through a first love, and a young mom in the 1980’s. The following is a list of my favorite Chicago songs. Many of them also happen to be on the Chicago Greatest Hits 1982 – 1989.
Hard To Say I'm Sorry
This song was the song of my first marriage. I guess it should have told me something that “our” song was “Hard To Say I’m Sorry.” From “Everybody needs a little time away” to “I’ll make it up to you, I promise to” it said a lot about my first marriage.
Baby What A Big Surprise
I loved this song. Just loved it. Sitting outside while my girls played, I would listen to this song. Maybe it was the thought of forbidden love that I liked so much – maybe it was just the song itself. I just know that I loved this song. Especially “Yesterday it seemed to me, my life was nothing more than wasted time, but here today you've softly changed my mind.”
Hard Habit To Break
I guess I really didn’t realize how many Chicago songs were lost love or break up songs…I like this one, too. Just some cool lyrics to listen to. “I’m addicted to you babe – you’re a hard habit to break!” Pure Chicago…
You're The Inspiration
My absolute favorite Chicago song ever! “You’re the meaning in my life, you’re the inspiration!” I sang this song for my girls – they were my meaning and my inspiration. They still are! (And now my husband, my new kids, and my grandkids!)
Love Me Tomorrow
“Love me tomorrow, hurry back can’t you see I need you more than yesterday!” Back in the ‘80’s I didn’t have the person to say that to. I am happy that I can say that I do have that man today! And I know that he will love me every tomorrow!
Along Comes A Woman
Many times in the ‘80’s I felt like the second verse in this song, “All alone, nothin’ seemed to matter, so alone, doesn’t get much better.” I was lucky I had my girls during those times. And Chicago – they knew how I felt! Life is better now - but nothing is better than a good Chicago song!
Look Away
I don’t know how many times I felt this way – especially waking up after a long night. I know that this isn’t what the song is all about, but “Don’t look at me, I don’t want you to see me this way!”
What Kind Of Man Would I Be
A couple of friends want to be good – want to do the right thing – but their significant others are making it difficult. “Temptation so strong not to mention the yearning inside.” Love those lyrics. Although I was never tempted in that way, the lyrics are perfect.
We Can Last Forever
“I love you today. Just ask me why, you're all I'll ever need, now that you're in my life I really think you should know, that I never wanna let you go.” Chicago knows how to say the right things! Kinda makes you melt hearing these lyrics!
Stay The Night
The group doesn’t mince words, that’s for sure. They say what they mean and what they want to say. I can see some sexy man saying to a beautiful woman, “Stay the night, there’s room enough for two, stay the night, I’d like to spend it with you.”
Best Chicago Songs Of The 1980s
This is just my list – and it’s in no particular order. Just Chicago songs I like from the 1980’s. As I said before, most of them come from the Chicago Greatest Hits 1982 – 1989. Take the time to listen to them again – you will enjoy every minute!
